After golfing the other day i noticed a scratch on the face of my club. You can see the normal marks from the ball hitting the face but this looks like something hard would have been on the ball when i hit it and it scratched the face. Should i be worried about it at all? The club seems fine and it really isn't a bother to me just wanted to make sure it won't effect the preformance.

Probably from a rock or something. I don't think you have really anything to worry about unless the scratch is real deep. How deep is it?

I had a small scratch / knick from a rock on the face of my 7-iron that left a bit if a metal knurl that was sticking past the club face by a small margin. If you rubbed your finger across the face it would probably cause a small cut.

I did not notice that it had an effect on ball flight. However, I took it to a club repair guy and he just used a little wedge tool and took off the little rough bit and cleared the little bits in the groove.

I still don't notice a different but I feel better about it.

it is only like .001 deep into the face. It is very suttle and you can just notice it when looking at the face. Like before it looks like it came from a very small rock piece that was on the ball when i hit it. When you rub your finger across it you can't even notice it but when you rub your fingernail across it you can feel a very suttle dip down that is the scratch.

If this does have any impact at all on the ball I'm guessing it may put 0.01% more spin on the ball. Unless there are shards sticking out I would not worry about it.

No it doesn't feel like there are any shards or burrs coming off of it just a little scratch/knick. I am not going to worry about it.

The most the scratch will probably hurt is your mental game. You may not be as bad as me but if I know there is a scratch on my club face then the club needs to be replaced. If I were to play with a scratch on my club face, that scratch would be in my head during my entire swing and I would be wandering if it was going to effect the ball flight.

There are dings and scratches all over the faces of my irons and they work fine. My two wedges have rust spots on the face that are the size of a nickel. Its not an issue is the mark isnt cutting into the edge of a groove.
