Despite what some may think, golf is a physically demanding sport and I'm starting to feel the effects once again.

Last season, I had a nagging shoulder injury (lower trapezius) that bothered me constantly. I thought that the long off-season would allow it to heal and be 100% but it's already bothering me again and we're only into our first month. I think it's probably time for a more drastic treatment.

Anyway, have any of you suffered injuries from golf (overuse or otherwise) and how did it affect you?

I used to drink a lot while out golfing, I think I injured my liver

On a serious note, I have never had any problems golfing besides muscle soreness at the beginning of the season the day after a long range visit.

I have a tenderness in my right elbow that never quite goes away; it flares up really badly after a long driving range session. I guess this is the golfer's equivalent of "tennis elbow".

I just play through it and eat a lot of ibuprofen.

Occasional twinge in a back muscle, like right now, that causes me to take a few days or a week off. Other than that, nothing major .... touch wood.

But I forget to mention, I actually took up golf about four years ago after a lifetime of tennis because I got a pretty bad case of peripheral neuropathy in the feet after some intensive chemotherapy (Hodgkins Disease). The cancer is gone, my tennis career is over (feet start to hurt when I run around more than a few minutes), but motor function is unaffected and I just love the game of golf. So, I'm still alive and enjoying my time on the range and the golf course.

My peripheral neuropathy in no way affects my game, so I've got no excuse there ! My brain neuropathy (age-related) is another matter of course ...

I've been trying to practice 4 times/week but it's murder on my elbows. I'm starting to get golfer's elbow. It is not fun.

    • Day 3 - mirror swings/drills after my workout. Two seemingly good feels for me: feel like as the club reaches the top the weight of it/momentum of it pointing left initiates my "fall" into the lead side. Helps initiate the re-centering and some of the pressure shift. The second feel is like: as soon as the re-centering is over, begin to lighten the trail foot by feeling like my right knee in the beginning of the downswing essentially replaces where my left knee was at the top. This helps halt my sometimes ludicrous slide and greatly helps me get open.
    • Day 48 (17 Jun 25) - Into the net work today with the 5i - focus remains on the setup and proper weight shift.  Was not a perfect session as several were very heavy along with a couple of thin boys.  Finished up the day with a few pitches with the 52 (last set of 5 hitting to about 40 yds had 4 of the 5 in a 5’ circle (now if I could just do that on the course) - the errant one was a total mishit).
    • Day 260 - 2025-06-17 Played seven holes before it started thundering and then raining. Some good. Simpler.
    • Oh so that's how it's going to be. .... And to think I was going let you get away with wearing a white belt this weekend.
