I spent quite a bit of time testing the MP-52 and MP-57 models and really liked both. I ended up buying the MP-60's (slightly used for a great deal) once I realized that there was not a big difference between those 3 models. The 57 is 'slightly' more forgiving than the 60's and the 52 is a little more forgiving that than (but not that much). If you are wanting a more forgiving set, one thing you could do is purchase the longer irons from the MX-200 set and continue to use the shorter irons from the MP-60 set. You could have the lofts adjusted to fill gaps and this would be cheaper and maybe better in the long run than buying a set that you soon feel you've outgrown, but at the sametime providing more forgivness where you need it. Mixed sets like this are not that unusual these days. I am contemplating going with a 4-6 of either the MP-52 or maybe even MX-200's (maybe even MX-23/25) myself.

I think you've solved my problem! That makes sense to me as my problem is more on the long iron side. So I think I will probably either go with the mx200's or mp-52 in long irons and have a mixed set. That way if I get the time to play more I can just grab my mp-60 longs again and swing away. Thanks! Eddie

I was in the exact same situation as you 2 years ago. I had a set of M60's that when i was swinging well, they were great. Problem was, my job changed, on the road quite a bit more, and the golf game went down. ( Isn't it hell to have to work for a living). I changed to a more forgiving set ( Cleveland CG Golds) for only one reason - lower scores from a more forgiving club. I know all the purists talk about wanting to feel the sweet spot, etc. but for me, the end result is what matters. Just my opinion which is not worth much - just something to think about as you decide. This year I changed to the TM's due to a large pro shop credit that I won with the Clevelands. Went even more forgiving and even though I have only had them on the course a couple of times due to the cold weather here in OH, they are even easier to hit that the Clevelands. Demo as many as you can - good luck.

i think that what ever you get i would make sure its forged just for the feel of a players club. Also something with a thin topline but with a mid sized cavity. My two reccomendations are the MP-52's or the nike vr split cav's

I think this is a good choice. I just bought the MX-200's when i thought I would probably end up with more of a players club. My son has the MP-52's and loves them as do I. I considered a mixed set but decided against it. Figured if I wanted to hit some 52's I'd just jump in his bag! I hit some other clubs during my fitting that were nice but the numbers don't lie. I was puring the mizunos better than anything. I don't think you would go wrong in this case.

Just to update you guys again. I took a look at he x22's and x20s and I could never see myself going back to such a thick looking club. The look and feel is the exact opposite of my mp60's. The mx200 are much better looking so I went with those...

I think switch to a more forgiving iron is a mistake. No matter how often you play, the great thing about a club like MP-60's, or similar clubs, is the immediate feedback. If you switch to a club with less feel and feedback, your shots may look better, but your swing may be getting worse. This is like doing a math problem and getting the right answer, but for the wrong reasons. If you plan on playing enough now that you want to invest all this money into new clubs, why not spend that time and work on your swing? Just my two cents.

Keep in mind there are no pictures on the scorecard. Doesn't matter how you get the job done as long as it's done. Use what works. And work on your game.

I would have went with the MX-25's. Their look is more classy and they are cheaper since their not a brand new club. I think their profile is better looking too but hey, your the one hitting them. I just don't know if you ever had the chance to see or swing the MX-25's since everyone was telling you to get the MX-200's.

First off bravo on your honesty. I think there are alot of players in similar situations to you and won't make the change because of their pride. If your absolutely wanting new irons and dead set on selling the MP-60s then I would with titleist, callaway, or ping irons. Pricing is fairly competitve and make models that are good for just your situation. What I would be inclined to do assuming you liked the feel of your current irons is go to like a golf galaxy or golfsmith or any other place along those lines and pick up a decent used set of irons and keep your old irons in case your swing improves and you want to switch back. I myself have seen quite a few good golfers make the same type of switch as you're planning and their game got better. So don't loose help. Try the irons the titleists, callaways, Pings, and any other type of iron you want and take what you feel most comfortable.

Hi all,

I hit both and personally liked the Mizuno better just because of feel. I did like the Nike, though. I thought it felt powerful, but just didn't quite have the same feel as the Mizuno - some people might prefer the feel of the Nike. I liked the look of both at address and felt like they were very comparable clubs, just with different feels. They are worth a look (and I've always been anti-Nike).

I recently picked up a used set of MX-900's really cheap (under $100) and am currently using the 5 and 6 irons with the rest of my MP-60 set. I had to have the lofts weakened a little with the MX-900's, but I like them in my set. They are definately more forgiving than the longer irons in the MP's, but still feel like Mizuno's (still forged).

I just went to the Taylor Made Tour Preferred's this year (finally retiring my 854s Ti Face that I've had for 10 years or so). I really think they are a perfect iron for anyone with a 0-15 HCP.

Hi all,

I recently demoed both in a list of about 8 sets when I was deciding which new iron set to buy. I did not like the Nike VR Split Backs whatsoever, might've actually been my least favorite set of all that I tried. I think they are a nice looking set but for whatever reason didn't feel very solid or consistent to me on contact. Of the two, I liked the MP-57s better although I think they are probably less forgiving than the Nikes.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
