The tour velvet is what I got on my new irons and I had not played that grip in a while. I'm digging them. I had been playing some "hand me up" irons (my son's) with the New Decade grips and they were good but tore up my hands. I had to start wearing a glove again (I hate wearing a glove, more unnecessary expense).

The grip that was on my clubs all through high school and some time after was the Golf Pride Tour Wrap. I didn't regrip the clubs and the grips did fine for all that time. I have played the tour velvet as well as its Lamkin counterpart. Velvets are nice, but I like the Lamkin Crossline better. You can get them in black/white, red/white, blue/white or all black like the Velvets. The blacks will show less wear. Right now I have the red multicompound New Decades. I am looking forward to trying them out on the course soon!

Used the Tour Velvets a lot in the past but having used the Lamkin Crosslines the last year or two I'll be sticking with them. The X-lines have a great tread pattern, masses of grip and they're cheap enough to replace as often as you like.

Is it just me or does anyone else here get blisters with the tour velvets but NO blisters with the tour velvet cords?

My mizunos have cords and no blisters. My wilsons have velvet regular and I get blisters....weird.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think it happened because you are getting a better grip with the cords so yo are not gripping them as tight.

The tour velvets are alright. I use them on my woods (they came stock with them so i just went with it) I prefer the new decade multi compound on my irons and wedges, though.

I agree. Lighter grip without slippage....awesome combination.

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
