why is it so hard to find clubs with x-stiff flex is it because not very many people need it it gets annoying that you can never find any.i dont even like testing clubs without them because they get to whippy and i end up not liking the club ugh its a very annoying thing.

If you really have the SS for an X, and can control it, then I think there are a lot of people who would be happy to have your "problem."

I am going to agree and disagree with you. I do wish that stock clubs came with the XS shafts, and didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for them. Disagree; olf pro said I should play XS shafts, but not to worry about changing my 65S Prolaunch Blue in my driver. Gave me a XS to hit a couple of times then sliped a R stiff shaft in without me knowing and it didn't make a big difference. But I would like to see more XS out there.

According to the fitters, my SS is border line XS at around 108. I dont like most XS shafts though. I find that I do not overpower stiff shafts (unless it is an unusually soft stiff) to the point where I cant control the ball. I have also recieved comments on how smooth my swing/transition is.

A major complaint fitters have is when people try to rush the transition and end up in shank-city.

There is no industry standard for shaft flex...in other words, what may be classified by one mfg as a stiff, may be a R flex by another.

Shaft flex (from the OEMS) is guesstimated by how the BUTT END of the shaft registers...it in no way tells you how a shaft will perform at the other beam lengths.

So you have no idea if the shaft has a mid, low or high kickpoint, no idea if it is tip stiff or soft.

I would estimate that 80% of golfers are hitting shafts too strong for them.

Didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for them? What are you talking about? You go to any pro shop that sells clubs, and its the same price for XS as it is for stiff, you just have to wait for them to get there is all. They are the same price.

I have always chalked it up to the fact that not too many people need them. I agree with you though, I would like to be able to try them out. Sometimes an XS is a particular shaft would be a better fit than a stiff in a different shaft. I hit my driver really high and always have a hard time finding 8.5 degree heads. They never have them in demo clubs.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I repeat, since there is no industry standard for shaft flex, nor are shafts offered with complete profiles indicating how each beam length will perform, to make such a statement would be incorrect.

Also, other considerations when selecting a shaft would be the head it's going into...the weight of the head can dramatically increase or decrease the flexibilty of the shaft, as does the bore depth and BBGM. Also to consider is the swing itself...is the player an aggressive hitter with quick backswing and return? Or smoother? with much wrist lag or minimal? Many, MANY players hit just as far and farther with over all softer flex shafts. Many variables...too many to ever make such a blanket statement.

I find it very difficult to find a good sapling of shafts to give myself an idea of what i need to hit. At the moment im using a r580 9.5 with a stiff stock shaft thats mid torqe mid kick. I find i hit it well, but the ball flight it high, so im thinking back spin is not ideal. I have been taking lessons this winter and with this same driver my ss on a launch monitor is around 115 average ballspeed 150-170 with bs of around 4000-5000.

I can get taylormade clubs at cost so id like to find one that fits me welll enough to increase my distances, even with my high launch i still manage 270-280 yards. I do feel that im lossing a lot tho. One thing that worries me is the open face on most tm drivers.

I can get my hands on a ping g10 7.5 loft with a aldila vs proto blue 65g. For around 250. Or I could buy a tm tour burner and reshaft with perhaps a aldila nv for around the same.
Not sure if 7.5 would perhaps be to low of loft tho

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week. 
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing. 
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process. 
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day. 
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
