I'm beginning to get me some new equipment (G5 irons) and now I'm looking for a new 3 wood that will mainly be used for off the tee. I've never been able to hit a driver consistantly, so I've alway used a 3 wood. I'm not needing something for workability. Just something forgiving that hits straight and far. The new TM R9 looks nice, but I'm not sure if a high handicapper like me can get the full benefit out of it. Any suggestions?

Try a bunch out and see which one you like the best. I was in the same position as you wanting a 3 wood to hit off the tee and settled on the Nickent 4DX 3 Wood so you might want to check that out.

I think the R9 is exactly what the high handicapper needs. Nobody has more inconsistent swings or swing changes as the high handicapper, so therefore the adjustable face bias and lie is ideal--at least until you find out the right set up for you and then get a club with the same specs. Or just keep it. It's a great club and it sounds real nice.

I found the old 07 burner 3 wood to be very forgiving and long both off the tee and the deck. I only stopped using it because it felt like a toy with a 50 g shaft

TGW is selling the Nike 5900 driver for $200 w/ a free Sumo2 Fairway wood. Sounds like a great deal!

Go for it this is the best deal your gonna get. The driver is also very forgiving. You will kill two birds with one stone.

That NIKE deal is really good. You'd get a straight driver that's super easy to hit and a larger 3 wood with it. I'm not sure how it performs off the deck, but I'm sure it's a solid club.

Your best bet with finding a 3W is to try a bunch out. If you are looking for the most forgiving, try any square wood (Callaway, NIKE, etc.). These will probably be the most forgiving.

Try a bunch out at store that either has a simulator or a range. I'd look at new and used. Just yesterday I went looking for a three and came home with a older cleveland. Why? I hit it the best. One other thing, a lot of us have been where you are in prefering to go with a fairway wood of the tee. I still do it my self sometimes. But I would also look for a driver because most of them today are very forgiving. Oh one more thing, personally I'd stay away from adjustable clubs like the R9. The reason being that I've seen a tendency for higher handicapper with r7s to switch the weights after 1 or 2 drives and you can't know very much about it in only a few drives. Keep it simple.

if you need a driver as well as a 3 wood, then i also say go for the Nike deal and get them both. they are both outstanding clubs and will serve you well.

if you dont need the driver, then check out the 07 Taylormade Burner 3 wood. thats what i have and i love it! long, straight, and forgiving. there not much more you can ask for. plus, you can get it cheaper off ebay. i got mine for $125!

This past Sunday, I demoed a new Callaway Diablo 3 wood, draw model. I own several 3 woods, I've tried many. They are for me an elusive lover: highly desired but somehow just out of reach (perhaps I should reach for a performance metaphor). The Diablo was, by far, the easiest to hit off the grass 3 wood I've ever tried.

I used it off the tee on a short, par 4 dog leg right: straight and long.

I wish to try the Diablo neutral. But regardless how I hit that club, I am sure one of the Diablos will be in my bag in the next few weeks.

The Adams FW woods are awesome, don't know if you want a good deal, but I got my Adams tight lies 3 wood for $9.97 at Sports Authority.

I've hit my friend's TM and prefer the Adams.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but i am in the same boat i am very new to golf. But could someone tell me the difference between the hybrid and a 3 wood, casue i also can't hit a driver that well so i normally hit the hybrid. Will the 3 wood give more distance off the tee, cause right now i can only hit it about 170-180 yards using the hybrid.
