1968 at the Masters: Roberto DeVincenzo tells the truth--------- "I am stupid". ---------- No, Roberto---you were caught up in the moment and did not realize that instead of a birdie, your scorecard showed a par, so you did NOT finish in a tie with Bob Goalby.

Roberto DeVincenzo----real gentleman, and in the Hall of Fame for winning the most golf tournaments world wide of any one in history---over 200! No one will ever come close to that record.

2009 at the Masters: DeVincenzo gives Angel Cabrera a picture of a green jacket and says, "Win one"-----meaning "Win one for yourself, for me, and for Argentina"!!

The golf gods smile down on Roberto and Angel. Perry bogies 17 AND 18. Perry bogies the last playoff hole, and Angel wins with a par.

Sometimes, just once in while, justice occurs on the golf course. We were all witnesses to it yesterday.

Yeah, I don't see it that way at all. It's justice for someone else to win 41 years later to make up for the fact that another guy couldn't check his scorecard? Just because they're from the same country and vaguely know each other?

Nah, not buying it.

So DeVincenzo shoots a 3, but writes down 4 on his scorecard. Is that what happened?

Who realized he made a mistake? Why didn't they tell him BEFORE he left the signing area, so he could correct it? Or better yet, in these tournaments why in the world do we bother with players maintaining their scorecards? CBS/ESPN know the score - it seems ridiculous to make the player keep it as well. They don't carry their own clubs, they don't have to find their own balls when hit into the woods. Is this just a throwback to the past?

We've had this conversation before. Please look those threads up if you want to talk about that.

Typical american mentality.

South american countries have a very strong sense of national pride. Top athletes from south america are not a dime a dozen, the elite few take pride in representing their country.

Cabrera winning yesterday was a national event, he won the tournament for his country, it is nothing like an american winning the Masters.

You are right. After Angel won the 2007 United States Open at Oakmont, he was greeted by his countrymen and they really celebrated. They should be proud of him. He played the last three holes yesterday in one under par. Contrast that with Phil, Tiger, and poor Kenny Perry. You can say this about Angel---he knows how to close the deal, and has proved it in both of his Major wins.
