I have been hearing nothing but great reviews over the regular Z star. My question is has anyone with high swing speeds noticed a loss of distance and over spinning the ball. I already am sold on the X version, but everyone says the regular is better. Any thoughts would be great

The Z star is like the ProV1 and the Z starX is like the ProV1x. Sounds like the X is for you, geared for higher swing speeds and less spin.

Thats what i thought too, but the srixon website says the X is the higher spin version, has anyone found this to be the case? Thanks

The X version is the lower spin, longer distance version of the two. I just recently switched over the the Z-Star, and the clerk at the golf shop gave me a 2-pack of the Z-StarX to try out the "longer" version. Also, the markings on the back of the boxes say that Z-Star does have more spin. Check out this too --> http://www.srixon.com/balls_selector.html

I'm a huge fan of srixon balls, and i have tested the X and the regular. The regular is better for me. I have an average swing speed of about 110, but I have a swing speed measurer, and when I want to crank it I can get it around 120. But the regular Z Star is still better for me, as I have found it to go farther than the X. Hope this helps.

PS,

both are great balls. better than the pro V's in my opinion

I saw that on the

Srixon site too. I'm not sure why it says that, and then compares them as Z-star=ProV1 and Z-starX=ProV1x....The Z-StarX is supposed to be their lower spin/ longer "ProV1x" ball. I know the regular z star and the z star x are geared for different swing speeds, so I'm guessing they tested the spin rates when sturck at the desired swing speed for each ball. If the Z-starX was hit at 115mph it makes sense it would spin more off the 9 iron than a Z-star hit at 90mph.

I'd love to give these a try, but I'm sort of up to my balls in balls right now. I have 5 dozen Tour i, two dozen One Platinum, and a dozen(+) Pro V1x.

Anyone wanna trade a dozen?

I have been using Pro v1 for about 4 years and last week bought a box of Z Star.

I have found (on our moist greens in Ireland) that the z star spins more than the ProV1 to the extend that I have spun back off greens which i never used to do with the Titliest.

Find that there is little or no difference in distance-both long. but iv heard that the new 2009 ProV is not a good as Z star? What you guys think?

Both are same price over hear £34 pound about $48 (yea we are ripped off over here)

but that said im quite impressed with the Zstar...still deciding which to go with

Just started using the Srixon Z-star. In short, I will never buy another Pro V1. The Srixon is a superior ball in my opinion. Long off the tee with a boring trajectory. Long on the irons. Plenty of spin around the greens. The best thing about this ball? How it putts. Can't explain it, but I can feel (and hear) this ball when I putt with it. Best ball I have ever rolled on a green. If I had to guess, I would be willing to say this is one of the main reasons the pros on tour are switching to it. Get a dozen and try them out. You will not regret it. Fantastic balls.

Srixon's website has me confused again..

For the TM TP Red they recommend the Zstar
for the TM TP Black they recommend the ZstarX

From the TM ball thread we learned that the red was the less spinning lower trajectory of the TM balls. I would have guessed the ZstarX would have matched up with the TM TP Reds

I still need to try the ZstarX as I do like a ball with less spin b/c I hit it so high. The Zstar just seems to stay in the air for days and my draws and fades were magnified because of the spin

LOL - I just picked up 6 dz from lost golf balls, and have another 4dz at home .... I'm done! But - I do like the Srixon balls. I honestly think a lot of people have blinders on, and feel there is no other ball but a Titleist!

Guilty as charged That all changed when I use the Srixon Z-star. What an incredible golf ball.

I gotta say, srixon definitely makes a very fine ball. Cleveland had the van at the practice range last week, got to try some balls. Too bad I can't afford the premium balls they fitted me with haha, but I'm happy with the new TF Gamers. What I really love is that they dumped all these range balls when they came with the course logo on it and they are so freakin buttery soft for range balls. Especially around the chipping green, never hit a practice ball that spins like those. Srixon really puts a premium on feel.

Yeah, they are awesome balls. I love the Z-star. I don't know anyone that likes paying $40/dozen for balls, but these are the real deal. If you liked hitting them on the range and chipping green, wait till you putt with one. The way this ball putts is what actually converted me from the Pro V1. Can't describe it, but the Z-star is an incredible ball to putt with.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
