I didn't remember Barefoot resort being in North Myrtle near the homes... Isn't Barefoot south of the actual North Myrtle business district? Is it the area North of the North Myrtle businesses or is it the area between North and Myrtle that is burning?

Either way... pray for the best... the area is facing enough problems with the economy.

Barefoot is south west of North Myrtle Beach but is apparrently within the NMB city limits. There are several subdivisions in Barefoot and several homes have been lost. The entire area has been evacuated (all 3 courese closed). Most of the courses on the north end would be tough to play with all the smoke. The south end has some smaller fires in the Murrells Inlet area and it is smokey there also.

That's what I remembered... so it's the area between North Myrtle and Myrtle that is burning... and as you said a couple other areas as well.

Just a note... I checked the weather and NO rain is forecasted for the next 10 days... so that sucks. I hope we don't loose any quality golf courses and I hope the people who loose homes are able to get all that is important to them out, and have insurance.

First and most important is so far no lives have been lost. Second, my heart goes out to all those who lost their homes and memories contained within them.

I just heard that the golf courses all seem to have be spared. We make our annual trip to the Grand Strand the week before Thanksgiving each year.

I have 2 friends who played The Love course yesterday at Barefoot {Thursday} and they said it was snowing ash but the course was open. They are using helicopters with water buckets to fight the fires. Some sub divisions in barefoot lost 40 houses that skirt Rt 31 so it is a large dangerous fire.

So did everything else with an irrigation system Seriously, sounds like some pretty bad fires. Wish well to those effected.

For anyone wondering the damage sustained to Barefoot, here is a good link with the damaged areas. I have two co-workers that have places down there that were spared. Not so lucky for a lot of others.

Word is that the courses did not get damaged and (thankfully) nobody has lost their life.

Fairways and Greens.

It's amazing with all that damage that nobody died. Lives have been destroyed of course, but if the biggest death was a pet, then, count the blessings. Courses can always grow back. Thanks for the link.

People I stand corrected my "Bud" was pulling my leg and they did not play the Love course on Thursday as I reported. Both my friends live in the old Gator Hole development in North Myrtle and are to cheap to play the Barefoot courses so I should have suspected something was amiss.According to the Sun News online the bridge to Barefoot is closed so you can not get acess to barefoot from 17.They played as I found out later Azelia Sands down the road on 17 from barefoot and there was a lot of ash on the course.Sorry for my previous and wrong Reply.

    • First round at Quail Ridge: 47 + 47 = 94 *Note: It was 25+ mph winds with gust in the 35+ mph. It was also around 58 degrees. I felt like I was out in Oregon. The greens were very firm.  Driver was decent. It didn't cause me an issues.  Irons were the biggest issue. Just low point control was lacking. Mostly on the chunky side. Also, my irons were routinely 20-30 yards shorter than normal. Even on holes with a cross wind, the ball was just dying. We played an extra 9 holes after the first 18, and the wind died down by then. I stepped into a 9 iron, and it came up 15 yards short. I have no clue what is going on. I should not be hitting 9 irons 140 yards when I am hitting my driver 300 to 310 yards.  Warmup didn't give me much confidence. I just kept shanking every other iron shot. I didn't shank an iron during the round. I just felt all out of sorts today. Coordinate felt off.  yea, I have no idea if I am purposely slowing down my swing to feel my downswing piece. Again, I hit a decent 9 iron and lost 15 yards of carry. I hope this is just an off day.
    • Day 565 - 2026-04-19 Wanted to get home to do some spring cleaning type stuff, so I practiced for about seven or eight minutes and got my butt home. Just backswing stuff, mostly, with freezers and a little downswing feel. Liking the new big mirror I have.

    • Day 22: played 18. Shot okay - 80 - but long game was bad. Saved by some good putting and short game.
    • Well that's about the dumbest thing I've read today.
