I went to the mizuno fitting today, it seemed there wasn't much to it. The guy put tape on the club, I made a few siwngs and he said 2 degrees upright. Then he said bump up your grip to a medium and based ont the chart you need to add 1/2 inch.

Maybe I expected more like a lauch monitor or somthing. Has anyone had this feeling from a test. Its my first time and I have read so much how great it is to be fitted. Maybe he is just a pro and can tell me what I need in 5 minuites or should I pay the $100 somewhere like cool clubs for all the hi tec stuff........any thoughts?/

What you speak of is not that uncommon from what I have seen. Just remember that there are many different types of "fittings". One, basic, like you apparently had, will get most in the ball park I suspect. I am actually looking to do the same myself as I have not had my length or lie adjusted in several years. I am 2" overlength and 2 degrees upright. Always wondering about that though and another fitting is high on my to do list. There are far more advanced fittings out there too. I contacted Fuzion Golf just the other day. Some $200-400 depending on which fitting you choose. This is the high tech route for sure. Check out their website. Expensive, but impressive. Frankly, I am just not good enough to justify this kind of fitting. I am actually looking for something like you just had done. Different strokes for different folks.

That is a pretty half ass club fitting but it's not uncommon. I've been around at the driving range when people who just bought a new set were getting "fitted" and that's basically what it entailed. A proper fitting should have looked at your preferred ball flight, swing speed, swing tempo etc. to fit you for the right shaft. You usually don't get that with the OEM reps though.

It sounds like the fitting was pretty much for length, lie angle, and grip size. Did you do anything with shafts? I don't think you really need to go high tech to get the right shaft since all they would do is give you suggestions. What you need to do is hit the same club with different shafts and see which one fits you best. I think it is more of a personal decision and should be made based on what you feel most comfortable with. I got some irons last year and did basically what you did, but then I spent several different days hitting the demo club with different shafts until I found the best one for me. If the club you were hitting was fine with the shaft that was in it, you are done.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I totally agree with everyone, especially GoBlue. The basics are done, now just figure the shaft you need. One thing to consider is to have a couple similar fittings just to see if there is a constant. I have one like yours, but they missed my 1" over. At the Mizuno Demo Day I went to, the rep caught that. When he handed me the 1" over club he told me to ignore the shaft, and club head. I took a couple swings that had consistant results. All 4 shots went to the same place, withing a couple yards.

Then he told me to address the ball, but don't swing. He walked around me and just pushed on my back a little bit. I had better balance with the longer club. The whole thing was repeated with the 1/2" over club. Things got erractic because I was off balance and felt it.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
