Ok so from my past postings you may know I'm looking for a new set of clubs to replace my original cheap Hippo set. I just got off the phone and plan to look at today this set. Any thoughts:

$300:
1. Nike Ignite Irons hybrid 3-9 graphite. No 5 iron. (I would get one on my own) (Used)
2. Nike Ignite Sand Wedge (New)
3. Callaway X460 Driver (New Condition)
4 TaylorMade Rosa Putter
5. Brand new bag
6. some balls/tees.

Seems like a good deal to me. Let me know what you think.

All that for $300 seems pretty good. Maybe try and haggle $250 cash? Just remember, everythings negotiable.

See if you can find a 5 iron on eBay or some place before pulling the trigger, but this is not a bad deal considering everything that is included. The Nike Ignite irons are not bad irons at all. Heck, Rory Sabatini played them on the tour for a year or so. If you find the matching 5 iron see if you can talk the seller into taking that cost off his asking price. The only other concern is to make sure what the shaft flex in everthing is. Even at $300 it's not a great deal if it's not going to be a good fit for you. If it's all 'R' flex then it's probably a good deal.

I took a quick look at the usual places for a Ignite 5i and couldn't find one, so definitely look before you buy the set. It looks like you would probably pay about $50 for a replacement club from a place like ironfinder.com.

I was also wondering about shaft flex. I know nothing about your swing, but i do know not a majority of people play graphite irons. One being too light and also too flexible.

Like i said i know nothing about you or your swing, but unless your a Jr. or a Sr. or have a really slow swing speed, i would shy away from graphite shafted irons.

Hit the graphite shafts before you buy them. Don't just swing... hit them. If they are S flex, if you have a decent swing speed, you'll probably be fine. If they are R flex, you might find them too whippy.

Otherwise, $275-300 is a good deal. $250 is a steal if you can haggle that for the lack of 5 iron.

You're probably still going to need a PW or GW, as well, so don't forget that.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

I would drop 300 on the set, if they fit me, and they were in good shape.

i say go for it... and as for the missing 5i... id replace the 3-4-5 with hybrids which might help a lil bit since youre a 25 hcp... it'd make the set look more "complete" if you cant find a 5i replacement... seems like a reasonable deal... dont worry about it being graphite either unless you are pretty used to steel

Sounds good to me. But for the missing 5 iron i would try to talk him down to 275 or maybe 250.

Picked everything up today. Still don't know how to determine if they are stiff vs reg graphite shaft. Any idea on this?

They feel real good. Just was swinging them in the yard tonight. I play 9 holes tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the info.

it should have a R or S on the shaft for regular or stiff....

Great find. Might be a good idea to regrip.

Your shafts are marked with an r'' or 's' flex somewhere.

If you find them too 'whippy', look into reshafting one club at a time. There are some amazing shafts out there.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Ok I'm a little concerned because there marking is an 'A'. Any idea what that is?

'A' is usually considered to be a senior flex ('A' is used because originally this flex was called 'amateur').

Ok thanks. I actually hit the irons beautifully today. Now the Callaway R flex is a different story. I doubt that's due to the Regular flex but more to just not used to the driver. Kept skimming it across the ground.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
