I have not hit one yet but my buddy just bought one from the Nike fit van. They fitted him to it and he said he gained almost 15-20 yards from his TaylorMade.

I hit one yesterday. It seemed okay, but I'm not sure that the ability to change shot types is really going to matter much. Seems like most people would just find the shot that works for them and never change it...

That is my thinking. I mean you can't change it during a tournament either. I have the Mizuno MP600 and I never change the weight settings. If I want to hit fades or draws, then I just work the ball with body position.

I hit it, and was not impressed at all.

THe str8-fit was okay, but I still like the new D-series from titleist the most.

I bought one. I also gained 15 yards with this driver. I'm not changing the configuration, I found a combonation that works.

My carry has improved tremendously.

Gained 15 yards are you a 6.5 handicap? What were you playing before?

He will say that he is a low handicapper...IMO, he is probably about an 8-10. But I have seen it with my own eyes if that's what you are referring to. He hits it further than his old driver. This guy is probably the longest driver of a ball that I have seen in person. Our golf instructor says he has tour distance. His problem is he has no accuracy. He hooks it a lot.

I just find it hard to beleive that any single digit handicaper can gain 15 yards just by switching drivers.

I agree, but he is not a single digit handicapper....I was being a bit generous. He hits it a ton but is inconsistent with it. Also, he has been taking lesson for a little while since the last time I played with him and they may have contributed to what I saw first hand. I understand what you are saying. Just by watching him hit it....it just "looked" like he had more ball speed if that makes sense? The ball seem to really jump off the clubface and got out to the fairway quicker.

They could easily do so if the first driver was a horrible fit for them and the second was a great fit.

But what that statement doesn't include is the assumption that the single digit handicapper had a driver that was a horrible fit, which I'd rate as highly unlikely.

Im currently a 6.2 I was hitting the R7 425. My ball was very low with the R7 425, I went on a launch monitor and saw an improvement in carry and distance with the Nike DYMO. I hit all the new drivers out there, I just know I found a combo that works well for me.

Also don't forget about technology within the last few years as well. It depends on what driver he was previously using.

This is an older one....I just realized that I never replied back here about my post. The guy I was referring to had an "off the shelf" driver before hitting this one. The Nike demo guys fitted him to this driver and got it dead on. The improvements I listed can easily be made in this case.

I finally decided I was going to buy the R9 (or R9 460) and went to store. I hit the R9 20-30 shots on simulator when one of the guys who works at the store came over. He asked how I liked the R9 460 I was hitting then suggested I try the Dymo STR8-FIT. I explained I hated Nike and he said to give it a try with an open mind. After about 10-15 balls switching back and forth between the R9 and STR8 I realized I really liked the Nike better (*gasp*). I then hit both on the launch monitor for 7 balls and the numbers for the Nike were better across the board. I've now been playing it about a month and am very happy with it. If it wasn't for the sound (less than the SUMO's, but still a little 'tinny') I'd give it a 10/10 - as it is it gets a 9.5/10.

an additional 15 yards is a ton for a single digit handicapper. You say your friend hooks it a lot? Maybe when he was testing/getting fitted he was hooking the Str8 fit more and thus the computer was recording him as hitting it farther...?

If i hit a 20 yard pull with my 5 iron i can get an additional 15+ yards out of it too...
