You can't just take any stance?????????????????

Look up the definition of stance. It says "in preparation for hitting the shot." Kenny wasn't preparing to hit the shot in the immediate future. He wasn't taking his stance.

"Too Stupid"? Wow. Do you realize how many times you've changed your position? On this issue alone you disagreed he'd taken his stance when you typed your famous "half" bit in which you said he hadn't taken his stance but he'd grounded the club. I give up.

..... and again, if they DO all do that on the PGA Tour, it should be looked into. I've never seen it at any PGA Tour stop I've ever been to or seen on TV, and I wouldn't hesitate to bring it up to an official if I did see it.

I haven't seen this sort of thing either and I've been attending the Buick almost every year for the past half dozen or so, usually on multiple days. I like to watch the players from up close, sometimes with binoculars to really get near the action, and I don't recall seeing such an obvious bit of gardening well before taking the stance in preparation for the shot. I could describe to you in some detail the way that Sergio Garcia addresses the ball, I mean just how the clubhead hovers and incrementally descends to the turf - the same way every time. Same for Jesper Parnevik preparing for a tricky little short-sided chip from a steep slope and well below the green - a series of little jabbing motions into the turf, well away from the ball (getting the feel for it), prior to making a perfectly legal stance and shot. I find this sort of thing fascinating, the very fine points of the game I mean.

If a golfer seriously has a problem with the meaning of the word "stance" in this context .... well ...... best to say-no-more. Some of the arguments being used here in Perry's defense are pretty amusing. If some of you were his counsel you'd better hope I'm not on the jury. You need to come up with something a whole lot better than that. [piece of advice: you might consider "temporary insanity" instead ]

Kenny basically blew it off in his press conference yesterday. He leaned pretty hard on Charlie Hoffman's excusal of what he did and Charlie was 50+ yards away. He also said the cameraman was "five feet" behind him, so "why would I cheat then of all times?"

It struck me that Kenny may not quite understand the rules, and that in trying to brush this aside and get beyond it, he's simply exposing that ignorance (or that potential ignorance) to criticism. Though I agree it'd be a bigger story if Charlie disagreed, his agreement - particularly from 50 yards away - doesn't change the facts of the situation.

Interesting how the poll turned out. 1/3 in each bracket. Whether he cheated or not, I would think all tour pros will think twice about doing what he did in the future.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
