The only club that i've bought used is a Cleveland CG10 wedge. I buy most of my equipment brand new for pretty cheap. Rockbottomgolf.com always has awesome deals on clubs so I buy from there all the time.

I never buy used. Maybe I should. I have to admit it is alarming seeing used and/or trade in equipment at the golf shop being offered for about 1/10th the price of the new models.

For me, it kinda depends on a few things. I picked up the driver in my sig earlier this year for either $100 or $150, I cant remember. Either way, it was a good deal, and it was in pristine condition. Looking back now, I wish I had gotten fitted for it. I severely need a stiff or xstiff shaft. Normally, when buying a used driver, that's an additional cost on top of the cost of the club.

As opposed to buying used, when you buy brand new, the cost associated with shaft fitting, grips, etc. come along with the purchase of the driver and should be covered under that higher price. In the end, you gotta decide what you want, and then weigh out these costs.

For example, say you can get a brand new driver for $300. You see the same model or something comparable from last year in the used rack, but it doesnt have the shaft or grips you want, or maybe it isnt the length you need, but you can get it for $150-$200. Now add in the cost of the fitting, the new shaft, installation, new grips, and installation on those. You could be looking at an additional $100 or more (or less, I guess ), which puts you to $250-$300 total spent on the used driver. Now, it probably would make more sense to get the new one.

On the other hand, if the one that's in the used rack fits you well, has proper shaft, etc., then you sir have found yourself a good deal and you should jump on it!

I, foolishly I admit, buy everything new pretty much without even shopping around. That said, our local golf store price matches to golftown so at least I don't get totally fleeced. I can't walk into a golf store without some shiny new club talking to me. "buy me, buy me" it says. Just got laid off though so I guess those days are over.

My driver was bought new on special with extra coupon off. Bought my son's Titleist used for less than I could have bought the shaft. It couldn't have been hit more than five times. Pristine condition.
