Get fit, or go to the range and hit a bunch of different shafts.

I am the same and it has to do with my quicker transition. A regular shaft for me balloons to the right, no matter what I do. Stiff go longer and straight.

I saw something in this year's Golf Digest hot list about a golfer who was a tweener and had regular flex in his graphite shafts for his irons. He switched to steel, stiff flex and gained some serious yardage.

Given that I frequently test as a tweener and had mediocre yardage on R300 steel, and worse on Aerotech quasi-graphite shafts, I'm seriously tempted to give S300 a try. To the O.P., though - yeah, if your friend is hitting it well, and you think it's worth a try, it is. Don't let it get to your head, though - Freddie Couples once had something like an S300 in a 3-wood that he hit well, until he went to re-grip it and saw the flex markings.

i am the exact opposite. i too am a "

tweener " and recently (within the past year) switched from S300 shafts in my irons to R400 shafts and i gained almost one full club in length per club.

As your swing is slower than average (by the sounds of things) i would try the ladies flex shaft and see how it goes!

I use a ladies flex r7 425 driver to warm up with as it gets my timing and rhyhtm going on the right track!

Roger Dunn just let me borrow two demo irons from my set. Both are 6-irons; one is R-300, the other is S-300. I'm going to try these next to my 6-iron with the graphite regular a few times before I return them, and then decide what to do.

When I used their launch monitor, the R300 reported what I remembered hitting 6-iron back when I used these shafts. The S300 reported another 15 yards. But this was a launch monitor set up for drivers, so I don't know how accurate it is. Will check at range before making decision.

Mizuno fitting day at a different RD location next Friday. Will check with them, too, and see what they say.
