I haven't been playing that well for the last 2 years, and haven't broken 80 since 2007.

I've been working on my swing and stance since March and it has been giving me a more consistent play. But my best score yet this year had been 81, and have had "bad rounds" that though ended up in an 85. My wife who is my golf buddy was always telling my that the potential was there and that the special round was just around the corner. And boy did I break 80 yesterday.

On my local course I shot 73 and it was by far the sweetest round of golf I have ever played. Somehow just thinking about only the shot at hand and keeping focused on the target seemed to change something for me. That is not to say that every shot was hit solid, I had some luck (guess you need it) but somehow after the first drive(which was a straight 270 meter rocket) I felt that this could be the round.

I had even par after a tough first nine and shot a bogey at 10. Two more bogeys followed, and somehow I thought it was slipping away, (now here comes the ugly golf I have been so easily playing I started thinking).

But then I almost holed an eagle and got an easy birdy. And closed down another bogey with an easie birdy. The last 3 holes weren't that easy, I just tried to consentrate on the shot at hand and not the total score but it was hard.

The only hard par was at 18, where I had a 2,5 meter putt (around 3 yards) for par. It went straight in the middle and afterwards I just couldn't believe what I had done. I almost still can't.

My best score was 76, and that was almost 3 years ago and was far from as solid a round as this one. So I know it may be some 80s again but knowing I can do this, just gives me an edge going into this golfing summer. The biggest difference in my game IMO is that the bad shots are much better than in the last 2 years. Think that is the biggest difference to my game.

Anyway, just can't wait for my next round of golf and hope I have a chance to repeat this

Congrads. I just broke my scoring record last week with an 81, so I know what it feels like. It sounds like you got some confidence back and a great round is all it takes to turn a bad season around. Keep the good scores coming.

Congrats!! I remember when I first broke 80 a few years ago. I had not been out of the 80s ever, and then all of the sudden I rattled off a 75! Then 2 weeks later I shot a 72(shorter course than I what I play now). The biggest thing that day was the putts were dropping from everywhere. I would miss the green hit a long putt from the fringe and it would drop. Anyway, once I shot 2 or 3 times in the 70s, it seemed like it started happening quite often. Almost like once you get through that barrier and know what it feels like and what it takes to get there, it gives you a totally different mindset!

Awesome!

I did the same this past weekend, albeit at a totally different level. My best ever was 116 several years ago, and last Friday I shot 113, and that after shooting a 137 three months earlier. At any level, new scoring bests are great!
