That reminded me of an outing my friend was in that was put on by a "men's club". Talk about distractions.

Roadside distractions have never really bothered me as I learned to play on a couple of par 3's that seemed to be surrounded with traffic, but a few local courses have something even worse than any car horn, the dreaded inground pool in the back yard with more skimmpy bikini's than any beach I have been on lately. I tell you these 20 somethings with legs to there parading around just off the back of a few select greens or just off the fairway , well I really fall apart there. They know what they are doing and love every minute of it, as do I. One lady with a very ,very small tank top almost got hit with the ball when I shanked it right in her back yard o.b. , all she did was laugh and say

That's out of bounds in more ways than one (hope you said "right back at ya")

*sigh* just today on the 10th tee (par 5 with OB right, with a road running about 30 yards behing the box) I was literally at juuuust the point in my swing where my hands drop and Im making my move towards the ball when out of nowhere some ass%#&$ driving by yells "you suck fa##ot!" I sliced it so far OB I couldnt believe it. Im lucky I even MADE contact. I was soo pissed I cant even tell you. I wanted to kill them. Would you guys take a "mulligan" here? Or would you sack it up and play the three off the tee?

I don't understand how people talking/yelling can distract someone, how can it be that hard to lose your focus?

So you are telling me that if you were about to start your downswing, all was quiet, and then someone yelled "you suck fa#%ot!" it wouldnt affect you at all?? I find that hard to believe. I mean, the standards like cars driving by, or other people on the course, or planes dont affect me one bit. Someone YELLING obscenities directly at me, tends to throw me off a bit.

I'm going to have to agree here. I guess I just don't get distracted easily.

If you think about it, isn't the conventional line of thinking a bit backwards? For instance, most people are in awe of Tiger because he has such "incredible concentration" that if a camera clicks in the background he can stop his swing. If he was that focused on the ball/shot, I'd think he wouldn't even hear the outside noises. How come no one gets ticked off when a bird chirps mid backswing? Maybe I'm just weird.

It's never "all quiet" though. There's birds chirping, bugs buzzing around you, wind blowing the leaves. You need to learn to focus on your swing and not the things around you. I'll play with my buds and one of them will put the cart in reverse so it beeps during the downswing, doesn't make a difference.

It's weird to me... Because I HAVE to have noise to play. I do my best when I'm in the middle of a conversation in the backswing, and keep talking through my downswing. Although I'm pretty lucky because my course is near a highway, and no horns have been blown... yet.

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
