Club Suggestion for Girlfriend.

Hey Guys, my girlfriend is starting to take an interest in golf. She is playing with an older set of clubs that were her dad's but wants to get her own. I really don't have much of an idea where to start. She's pretty tall (5'10"ish) and reasonably athletic. However, she has complained that her old clubs feel a bit heavy. I'll try and get the specifics of what she's currently using if it helps. I don't want to spend too much and willing to buy used. So, any suggestions or personal experiences from similar situations?

Look into a set of Adams. They are great for starters.

I just helped a woman I work with find a set of Ping G2 used...she is 5'10 as well. I posted a couple of weeks ago and got the advice that you should for sure get her men's clubs...my pro also said any woman over 5'7 usually fits into mens.

She spent $200 on a great set and she said that she has never hit the ball that far and is loving golf again.

just like runners, i always see that newbies "hitting a brick wall" and they either push ahead and become long time golfers or they quit before they have really started.

you should get her a set that's as easy to hit as possible so she doesn't get turned off the game after a few bad rounds. possibly an all hybrid set for starters. as she improves, you could get her a half set (6-GW) of irons, etc.

So, Adams and Nickent sound like the way to go. Any specific models that are good to look into, or just stick with basically anything from these brands?

I think Ping's are the most forgiving clubs, but quite expensive. Especially if you don't know if she'll keep playing. My sister really like her RAM golf set by the way, it may be cheaper as it's not such a big brand.

GF's mom uses adams clubs, and loves them. They are a mixed/hybrid set. very nice clubs. I think they are A3 OS clubs

Wanted to resurrect this thread because my gf is looking to take up golf and will be taking lessons beginning this week. Assuming she decides to stick with it, any new recommendations on a beginner set of clubs for her (latest recommendations on this thread are over a year old and wanted to see if anything new/worthy has popped up since then). thanks in advance.

Another question, I've looked at the women's adam's sets but it seems they are primarily hybrid irons. I know that hybrids will be easier to hit with for a beginner, causing less frustration, and increasing chances of enjoying golf, however I'm wondering because of the ease in hitting hybrids, if this will "hold" her back from really learning how to hit. Call me old fashioned, but I would think in the long run it would be better for her to learn to hit irons vs hybrids. Of course, having her learn on irons might cause such a high level of frustration that she doesn't want to pursue it.....................

Any personal experiences from anyone in getting their gf/wife onto the game, keeping her from getting overly frustrated, and keeping her interest in it high?
