Hey again,
After recently getting fitted for a couple of new hybrids, the fitter told me that my irons are also 1.5" too short. I have been out of work most of the past two years and just lost another job again due to the company cutting back. I obviously can not afford new golf equipment. Other then digging a hole and standing in it to hit my ball(also getting penalized for improving my lie), is there anything I can do, other than bending over more?

How tall are you? 1.5" short is a lot.

The cheapest option would be to have them extended. The extenders are not that expensive and having it done professionaly would probably not set you back much. The process is easy enough you might even be able to do it yourself. The most expensive part of it is a new grip and the labor.

when I first decided to get "serious" I went to go get fitted for new clubs, the guy at the shop told me I'd be better off just altering my old big bertha hand-me-down irons and playing with them until I got a swing grooved -

I am 6'6", and he suggested adding 1.5 inches based on where my hands rest at my sides - I simply had my old clubs "plugged" at the shop. They worked great, although on my 3 iron after a few months I could feel the plug was loose inside my grip. I think they are a little less reliable with graphite shafts from what I've heard.

I will say that the extra length has been great. It allows me to take advantage of my height by increasing club head speed just as a result of a longer swing arc. Its really great on wedges, I don't feel like I'm in Jack's putting stance standing over a full SW anymore.

I've since bought new clubs and just had them made with longer shafts

    • So, it appears to me that everyone is bringing out some version of the zero-torque, or square to square, or torque balanced, putter.  What ever name you want to give it seems like everyone has one of these types of things in their line up now.  It reminds me of about 10 years ago, when everyone had to have a counter-balanced putter in their line-up.  Callaway Media | Videos, Podcasts, & Episodes | Golf Content The Official source for Callaway golf clubs, golf balls and gear.
