Hey guys
Went out yesturday and it was a little wet but it didnt bother me to much. Started playing and pared the first 3 holes which never happens. So i was feeling really good. Tried to keep the demons out of my head and ended with a 42 on the front. The back nine was a little rough with anything off the tee box but i hit some solid irons and ended with a 43. First time in the 80s and i shot an 85. Not sure if you guys care to much but i have now figured out why i play golf.

I had a similar experience yesterday (also wet).

Par'd the first first 3. Ended up +6 (41) on 9 holes with only 13 putts. I thank the new putter.

I started playing with a blade type putter years ago. Won a mallet type (Odyssey White Hot) at a raffle and used that last year (when i got back into the game). Bought the new Ping and almost eliminated all but two 3 putts.

Congrats!!

My first day in the 80's was not that long ago.

Congrats! I just got a 3 shot PR on Thursday... an 82. Just continue to work at it and soon 80's will be no big deal.

Congrats! I just joined the 80's club last week with a 42 front 45 back for an 87. Feels good but now I want to see if I can do it consistently...gotta figure out my irons for that. haha

One thing that drives me nuts about golf is the way I'm never satisfied. I used to think, "wow, shooting in the 80's is pretty good golf. I'd be happy with that."

Now that I can shoot in the 80's about half the time, I keep thinking, "I let so many opportunities go this round. If only I could shoot in the low 80's."

And of course, when I get to the low 80's, I'll want to be in the 70's.

Damn this game :)

It will always be like that. Most players stand on the tee and expect to find the fairway. then they expect to find the green, then they expect to use no more than 2 putts. There's your par. Any anomaly from this in terms of more shots is a disappointment.

Congrats on your 80's! I've never thought about shots as I ususally play Stableford, but noticed one round that I shot 89 some weeks ago, first under 90.

I dabble around the 80 mark, I have broke into the 70's a dozen times or so.
I had no better feeling then shooting in the 80's for the 1st time.

Once I shot in the 70's, it didn't feel as good for some reason.

That's a great accomplishment in golf. Good for you!

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
