I recently posted a topic about looking for a place to live that could offer year round golf. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24934

I received a lot of great answers from that thread and noticed there was a "top five golf states" thread and thought there should also be a top five golf cities thread to sum things up even better. So, please post your top 5, 3, 1, 10 (or any # you feel like typing up) golf cities that are in the Continental US. Mine are...

1. Orlando, FL
2. Phoenix, AZ
3. New York, NY
4. Charleston, SC
5. Dallas/Fort Worth, TX

I took into account other things to do (professional and or university sports teams, water sports, skiing, ability to golf year round, economic diversity and stability)

Austin, Texas

San Diego area
Salt Lake City, Utah

I suppose I have a western US bias.

Do they have to be public? Naples, FL is literally back to back with incredible golf courses. I would say every notable architecht has multiple tracks there. Seriously, it is amazing.

Why, very popular seasonal retirement spot for big money executives. Unfortunately, it's probably not as well known as a destination spot b/c most places are private, and 100,000 plus initiation fees.

In my bag:

Driver: SQ 9.5, Graphite Stiff Shaft
3 Wood: Diablo 13 degree, Stiff Shaft
2 Hybrid: SQ 18 degree, Steel Stiff ShaftIrons: MP-30, 3-PWSW: 56* Vokey Copper spin-milledFW 52* VokeyFlat Stick Zing 2Ball: Pro V1x

    • https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/handicapping/world-handicap-system/world-handicap-system-usga-golf-faqs/faqs---calculate-course-handicap-and-playing-handicap.html That's up to you and the league. You can do a percentage, or just do 100%. If they're already salty about a 12.4 becoming a 10… I don't know that docking it to an 8 with 80% will go over all that well. If the higher handicaps are winning way too often, a percentage is often warranted. It affects them more than the low handicappers (22 x .2 = 4.4, 2.2 x .2 = 0.44).
    • Of course, what I also should have asked is "what handicap should be used in a league? The "Course Handicap" or the "Playing Handicap" and if the latter, what allowance should be made for non-elite stroke play competition? (95% of C.H.? 90%? or forget about the playing handicap altogether?
    • I'll keep the rule only if the water is visible above the surface either where the ball is placed or a normal stance would take place. If not, play ball. I took this the same as a divot, just bad luck. Adjust for a saggy/wet lie and hit the ball. (maybe put on your rain clothes before :D)
    • Day 302 - 2025-07-29 Slowly bridging the gap between the academy and the course. And by "slowly" I mean SLOWLY. Played 18 today.
    • I started Foundation on Apple TV.  So far, season 1 is fantastic. Starting season 2. The actors are great with standout from Jared Harris (Hari Seldon) and Lee Pace (Brother Day).  So far it gets a highly recommend.
