I looking to buy a new OEM driver. Visited my Golf Galaxy store in Jacksonville, FL this past Friday. I saw that both the Nike SQ Dymo adjustable and regular Dymo drivers, and the Cobra S9-1 drivers, were reduced in price by $100.00. I have a $180.00 credit for some clubs I traded in.

I am 64 years old with a swing speed under 80 mph with a moderately fast, but smooth downswing. My tendency is to hit a moderate fade, but not a banana ball. Looking to gain some distance.

Would appreciate any recommedations on which driver to purchase. Which loft and shaft flex would you recommend?

You should swing the clubs and try them out to see which you like better. As for the specifications, this could really help you add distance at your age/swing speed: 13.5* with a senior flex shaft.

I started out playing at age 14 with a 13.5* driver, I never missed a fairway.

I don't think you need to go clear to a 13.5*. I'd say check out a 12* in a sr flex. An offset model or draw model would help with the fade. PING G5 or G10, Cobra S-91, and the Adams line all seem to have good offset or draw model drivers that come in a bit higher loft.

agreed on the 13.5*. u will lose some distance comparing to the 9.5* and the 10.5* but they are just so much easier to hit.

That's not necessairly true. You can gain distance in carry.

I would recomend the S91 in senior. I have just bought this one. My swing speed is roughly the same. Mine has the GD 45 gram shaft 11.5 deg. tried probably 4 diff heads and shafts and this combo gave me the best distance/ball flight. I would normally use a high lofted driver such as my Alpha which is 15 deg, but this cobra is a ripper. Worth considering i think.

I would've thought a 80 mph swing would be okay with regular shaft but from the looks of the responses I guess not.

don't get a nike driver! I played yesterday and the guy behind us had one and when it hit the ball it sounded like a brick!

I mean no disrespect here, but who cares what it sounds like if it performs well? And I can promise you, the Dymo performs very well. Because of the shape and materials used on newer drivers, every one of them are going to have a pretty distinct sound to them. Some may fit into what

you like, and others may not, but to say not to get one based solely on the sound of it isn't exactly the smartest thing I've ever read. That may not be something that even enters some people's mind when making a decision on a purchase. Now, if you're biased against Nike, that's an entirely different subject...

My nike sounds like i hit the side of a trash can... But I crush it so I dont care...

I hit the new nike Dymo Squared (not str8 fit) It was easily one of the best drivers (as far as going straight) I've ever hit, next to the Mizuno MX700.

i think you can get a Callaway FT-i for around $200 now. ive fiddled around with a few drivers over the past 2 years but i keep putting the FT-i back in my bag. its one of the most forgiving and straightest drivers ive ever hit.
also, if you want something BRAND new, check out the Cleveland Monster. that thing is EXTREMELY forgiving

I don't necesarily agree with this statement.... looks, feel, and sound does have something to do with it. I tried a seried X Cally, and I couldn't stand the head, it looked like I was getting ready to hit a mallet into the ball. I tried a Bazooka Max also, and while I could hit it straight, it sounded flat and very loud...to the point that it actually bothered me (never thought sound would BTW). I have also used the Nike Sumo2, and while I liked the feel and look, I hated the sound, but the driver performed well, I was hitting about 10 yrds shorter than my knockoff Burner, but had much more control shaping shots.

As for shaft and loft, I would suggest to get fitted.. Most places charge $25 - $40, but if you buy the club from them, they'll waive that fee. This is the only way you will ensure that you buy the right compbiantion for you. But you are asking for opinion, so here is mine.... I'd do Senior Flex, with a 11.5 loft, at 13 you are looking closer to a strong 3w.
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

Be sure to check out Alpha's drivers, with the proper flex I think you will like them.Better and not expensive

I say go with the 07 Taylormade Burner. One of the very best clubs out there for only $149.99. It is also slightly draw biased (and I mean barely, 2 degrees closed face). I have a stiff shaft 9.5*, but judging on the information you provded, I'd say to go with a 10.5 with regular flex. Here it is http://www.golfgalaxy.com/galaxy/pro...PRJR6VR99PBTC1

I would suggest Taylomade also, I play the 07 Burner and really like it. I have also hit both version of the R9 and find the to be top notch.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?
