I have always tried to help others who aspire to play this game better. I have been blessed with the ability and spent a long time practicing to play the way I can. That said, I try my best to help others play better because a good golfers role is to be an advocate for the game.

I think the problem is people who think they have to be arrogant to be the best because some of the best are arrogant. Being arrogant is not the same as believing you are the best player at your club, in the state, etc.. Jack and Tiger KNOW they are the best and yet they do nothing but good with their gift.

I havent really gotten that vibe from anyone here yet but im new so maybe with time.

Coming from the guy whose home courses are at Horseshoe Bay. Give me a break...

I happen to work at Horseshoe Bay so I play there for free. I have an infant so I don't really have the cash to play at other courses. But in support of my opening statement, I have seen less arrogance at Horseshoe bay than on this forum.

Getting better........

sorry, I don't read posts by people that can't break 90.

Thanks, you really helped support my gripe.

Quite a few of the posters you are talking about are in the severe negative reputation from a toxic thread or two. There are a few people here as there are on any Internet forum that use their anoninimity to be jerks.

Thank you for the patience, I believe that I had read about 3 posts in a row from a low Handicapper and they were very snobbish. I know I am a beginner in this game, but you can plainly see on this thread how many low handicappers look down on High handicappers. I quoted one of them, and he fit the bill perfectly. Some people think that shooting below 90 makes them better than the rest of us, and that is who I was talking about.

I'm a arrogant dick on the golf course (and off, to people who like talking about how good their new Top Flite (sp) Gamers are). I dont like playing with people who don't hit 80% to 85% of there fairways and greens. When you start never shootin over 80 chances are you will gain some arrogance, even Furyks a cocky bitch but he can be 'cus he hits the ball well. You 15+ handicappers don't know what its like to shoot a below par round or even hit all your putts and get up and down every hole, therefore why would you want to be arrogant over a game you are struggling in.

I know you are trying to be positive here, but this is just a slap in the face to those you speak of. I would think that a 15 HI would be quite an accomplishment, and probably be satisfied with it. One of my course pros doesn't have an HI, he always shoots +-1 or so, and he has no problem coming out with me and letting me shoot my completely awful game. He has given me so many lessons, I just haven't had the time to develop my muscle memory. But that doesn't mean I don't have a good idea about how to play the game. I may not be able to hit the fairway from the Tee very often, but I can damn sure two putt any green from anywhere on it. I just happen to have that ability. Are you saying that because of my HI I can't give a pointer to a guy that can't putt? THAT is the arrogance I am speaking of. There you go guys, the example you wanted me to post.

Okay. But that was a reaction from your post. You had to expect that at least one person was going to take the bait.

How about some examples where the arrogance was unsolicited?

At some point, you have to stop bitching about the site and the (few) people you don't like here, and focus on the good threads, good posts, and good people. Filter out the garbage and enjoy TST - it's a great forum.

I just don't buy that TST is a bunch of arrogant people who are just know it alls. I do believe I am very informed of the rules and have some knowledge of how to hit the ball. But to say a high handicapper doesn't have anything to say that might be useful, that is rubbish. There are plenty of people who know more about golf but will never break 90 and disregard that is in my option cheating yourself out of an opportunity to learn.

there have been some instances where i felt like i was being condescended to or just generally getting what i felt was an unwarranted negative remark, but overall, most people here have been alright.

in fact... i think i am generally pretty much ignored, haha. unless i actually start a thread, i rarely get a response either way to my posts. but hey, that's fine with me, and i keep on coming back for more. or less. or however that'd work.

After all the replies I have received, I am confident that I can still enjoy the forum because it really is made up of really cool people. I guess I just had a run in with a jerk. If I could remember where the post is that offended me in the first place, I would post a link. I just don't remember what thread it was in, but believe me when I say that there was a reason I started this thread. Thanks for the (few) nice replies and I apologize to those I offended, but I was provoked, I just can't remember where.

You know, if there is one thing that bugs me more than arrogant people, its overly sensitive ninnys who have completely bought into the "everyone is special and is a winner in their own way" society and think it is a capital crime if someone doesn't think that they are just wonderful for shooting 110 because they tried really hard.

You stink at golf. I stink at golf. There are many, many people out there much better than us, and could teach us many things. Would it better if every good golfer out there was always supportive? Yeah, that would be great. But is it their responsibility to nurture you? You can still learn a lot of things from jerks, if, and only if you can put your ego aside and listen to what they have to say even if it doesn't make you warm and cuddly inside. Grow up, and quit whining.

Good lord. you really have me pegged wrong. I am not asking for someone to pat me on the F**king back. I really don't give a crap if you care about me or not. I was just commenting on the unnecessary arrogance that I have seen. There is no need for someone who shoots 80 to state that he doesn't read posts from those who haven't broken 90. To those who feel that way, who the hell do you think you are? Some people took this thread the wrong way, and I am sorry for the lack of clarification. I am not looking for butterflies and rainbows with dancing golfers, I just want to see a little humility when someone responds. Just because you are a better golfer does not give you the right to be a d*ck. Edit: that sounded a little gay with the butterflies and such, I meant I don't care if everyone is best friends all the time.

Listen, I didn't mean to piss off the entire forum, I just wanted to make a point, and it looks like I went about it the wrong way. Sorry to all that I offended, I will learn the ways of this forum yet. Thanks to everyone for their patience and forgive the angry rants of this beginner.

Interesting topic. Let's be honest here. We are, after all, on the internet and all you have to do is go to any forum concerning any topic and you are going to find your fair share of obnoixious jerks. And I know I'm generalizing here but it mostly seem to be younger males who have a sense of entitlement, think they know everything, and all too often try to impose their will or belittle others.

Most of them of course would cower if they were not hiding behind a keyboard and monitor.

I have found that the best thing to do is to ignore negativity. There is a young fellow on here who posts quite often... RHPhilMickelson I believe he goes by. He's said some things I thought showed some level of immaturity. But it is also obvious that he's a good kid who is learning and maturing as he goes along. If he says something a little off base I'll respond saying so out of respect for him, not out of disrespect. Others, like the yahoo posting in this thread... ignore.

You can learn a lot about life on the golf course, a lot about people... and a lot about yourself. Lord I love golf.

Further... hey, Ramrocker... not too long ago I posted that I was on the verge of quitting golf. It's the lowest I've ever felt playing this game. A solid month where it was like I had never played before. For the first time ever I took no joy in the game at all. I was looking for a little encouragement. Just needed to hear something like hang in there.

You posted, and I quote...

"Also, if you check, the average golf score in America has been 100 for the last 120 years, so unless you are a paid professional, get over it."

Just sayin

    • A list with both Airborne and Goonies.......   I think a list of 5 is very difficult Shawshank is definitely on the list Boogie Nights (This is a great film, but Really tough to omit PT Andersons other work . so I would need to include Magnolia and There Will Be Blood. And if we are being honest Daniel Day Lewis had a hell of a performance in There Will Be Blood. Actually if you watch There Will Be Blood and then Phantom Thread, you get to see DDL perform at 2 very different characters at opposite ends of the spectrum) No Country for Old Men Godfather (GodFather 2 may be the better film) Good Fellas (I might argue that Casino deserves as much love as Good Fellas, it is simply a great gangster film) Usual Suspects Saving Private Ryan (but Spielberg has made so many great movies) L.A. Confidential Almost Famous (This is one of my personal Favorite films, ever!) Modern Times (an almost perfect silent film made as the talkies were taking over)
    • They keep coming.
    • Also, Scottie seems to have been unaware that he was actually a full-on police officer, as he had the bright yellow reflective jacket on. He seems to have confused them with a volunteer type "traffic marshal" or something. I may not be wording that well, but I'm basically saying… he might not have recognized he was a full-on police officer. It was dark, early, and confusing.
