Anyone here use the Newport 2? Particularly the non-midslant version with a full-shaft offset? Why should I buy such a putter?

I use the 2007 Studio Style. Try it out, buy it if it fits your swing.

Buy a putter which suits your game style and stroke. The putter should give you confidence. You should feel comfortable with the putter, regardless of brand or slant.

I'm currently using a studio select newport 2, 35" long (340gm weight). I chose it after extensive testing, comparing and procrastinating, because I don't change putters very often (5 in 15 years!). Cost wasn't a factor for me, as my wife bought it me as a gift

Bottom line, my newport 2 works for me and gives me confidence - maybe the confidence stems from the the fact that works for me? - also, it looks and feels great, which is an added bonus.

I As the other guys have mentioned above, I don't think there's any single reason to buy a putter, rather a combination of factors.

I just got a Scotty off ebay that came in today. It is last years Newport 1.5 model. I was going to get it cut down to 34" from 35", but I just noticed this model is only sold in 35". Is there any reason that the 1.5 shouldn't be a different length than the 35"?

Which Newport 1.5 is it, Studio Style?

I'm pretty sure the Studio Select Newport 1.5 comes in different lengths?

I got one for Christmas. I love it. Certainly has a great feel to it.

Do I think I make more putts because I'm using this over something else? Eh, not really to be honest. I'm not missing anymore putts because of my putter, it's just well, my putting needs practice...I won't sugarcoat it.

It has a great feel and if anything has improved it's certainly my touch. I had a tendency to blow putts by the hole if I was outside of 20 feet, now I can usually lag it really well and have less than 3 feet for my next putt.

Yeah it is the studio style, but according to the link in post #2, the 1.5 on has the 35" option. I didn't know if had to do with the neck style.

Trust me, I'm not someone who plays clubs for the "brand", e.g. I built my own set of irons using Maltby OEM heads. Keep that in mind when reading this post. I've been having a really frustrating problem, particularly on distance control on putts outside of 40 feet with my current putter. This is largely due to the face insert. If you hit it one groove too high, it goes 6 feet less. If you try to hit it harder to compensate, you end up clicking the metal at the top of the insert and coming up 20 feet short. My impact pattern on my putter is dead center, very tight, and kind of like a 0, i.e. ever so slightly more tall than it is wide, and relatively close to the top of the face. If I change my stroke to compensate so that I catch the ball lower on the face, the impact distribution width more than quadruples, making changing strokes a non-option. I'm so sick of it and have been looking for a decent putter without an insert, so that I don't get so much inconsistency in feel depending on how close the impact is to the top of the face insert. I've really taken to this Newport 2 model for those reasons, though I can't decide whether I like the mid-slant option or not. Both are a full-shaft offset. What is the difference between the mid-slant and the "plumbing" neck? What is a "plumbing" neck anyway?

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
