How can I tell for sure whether clubs are real or fake?

Carefully compare them to a known real one. Pay attention to details, like fonts, kerning, paint color, and ferrules.

Is there anything that i could do with serial numbers or could I possibly take them to the pro at my local Dick's Sporting Goods?

A pro should be able to tell based on comparing. But so can you.

The thing with serial numbers is that they can be faked/duplicated.

If someone is selling the newest model irons for $350 less than anyone else they are fake. Too good to be true = fake.

Ebay rule #1: NEVER buy from a seller in China. it WILL be a counterfeit club (or if the package came directly from China, its a fake too)

the sellers name is golfetail, they are located in the U.S. I think Maine. They seem to sell all brands and anything to do with golf.

I called Callaway regarding a set of irons, I gave them the serial number and they asked me what the specs were for the clubs.

They confirmed the type, set makeup, shaft, lie and born on date. Counterfeiters usually don't match the specs like that. It may be a valid number on something, but not on the exact club. They even use the same number on many clubs. Serial number authentication is not foolproof (what is?), but it's certainly a valid tool when trying to confirm authenticity.
