Hi im 16 years old and Im fairly new to playing the game of golf seriously but I have always gone to courses with my dad and hit a ball here and there but this year I have really gotten serious about it and now play full rounds of golf with my dad. I am looking for a club that would be good for about 170-200 yrds. Just to let you know how far I can hit my other clubs so you can get a better idea of what I need to get, I hit a sw 75yrds, pw 100-115yrds, 9 iron 120, 8 iron 135, 7 iron 140-150, and 6 iron 150-160, then my 3 wood which im not too sure how far but its over 200. These are the clubs I am consistent with, my driver and long irons I dont use because im usually all over with them. I am thinking about a 5 wood or maybe even a hybrid club. So again what would you reccomend me using to get between 170-200 yrds?

go to a golf store with one of the computer simulators and try out some different clubs, that shoud give you an idea what to buy. club and shaft

Yea, I agree with Dan. That's probably the easiest and you'd be able to try out all different things.

I hit my Ping G2 7 wood around 175-200, which falls in perfect with your distances. I hit the clubs you mentioned the exact same distance, so try out a ping 7 wood.

But, like the other guys said, try out the golf stores, and their computer programs.

I went to test out some clubs at the store on the computerized screen thing. I really liked the Cleveland halo 22* 3i hybrid. I was hitting it about 170-180yrds. Is this a pretty descent club? Are they good for hitting out of the fairway rough and fairway bunkers? Do you think this will make a good long approach club for me?

thanks,
steve

    • the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.
    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
