Today I played Monday like a champ. Here's the schedule:

5:00, hit the pizza joint for happy hour. Get a pitcher of Fat Tire for $7, split it with my buddy. Enjoy free pizza (cheese, pepperoni, combo veggie), meatballs, crudité, etc. Take off 6:15, hit a local course at 6:30. At this place, the Pro shop closes at 6:00, so we head to the first tee and walk 9 holes. I had a few pars and a birdie.

So: Pizza, Beer, Golf = $3.50 (well, we tipped too, so it was a little more). That's my Monday "Stimulus Package".

Not to rain on your monday or anything, but is playing after the pro shop closes allowed? Some places would call that trespassing.

Yes. Not this place. The shop is closed but they're all still around. I've played with some of them before after close. Nice people like me also pay and play during the day, clean up the tee boxes and fix the greens. Nice try raining on my parade!

That sounds like a great course. I really like courses where you get the know the guys and you are actually valued as a regular customer, not just seen as another greens fee.

    • I'll play in anything besides lightning. The only weather I haven't really played in is a cold rain, because it's unusual to have cold rain here. It just snows instead. Here are some of the highlights (lowlights?) of what I've played in: 40 degrees, probably 30 mph winds gusting to 50-60 mph. I played fast because no one else was on the course! 32 degrees, on and off snow flurries. 100+ degrees (fortunately, no humidity). My motto currently is if courses are open, I'm playing. I'm sure this will change as my kids get older, and I have more time.

    • I voted "warm weather golfer", but I'd expand my acceptable conditions a bit.  If its over about 40 to start, and not raining, I'm OK.  (My wife uses the 50/50 rule, it should be over 50 degrees for over 50% of the round)  If its 60+ and a light rain, I'll play.  I have the gear to play in all conditions, waterproof jackets, pants, hat, rain gloves, winter golf gloves, thermal underwear, all of it, but I've become a bit more selective in my old age.  Also being retired, I CAN be more selective, I have more days available to play.  And of course for competitions or golf trips, I'll play in almost any weather.

    • Not sure if this is good or bad but I get the feeling I'm close to my ceiling if not there already as far as wedge swing is concerned.
