That might be how

No, you are in the minority. I have been in the military for 24 years. I am not an MP. I have never heard anything bad about MPs. Maybe, the LA police department is what you are thinking about. But, not the MPs. I love when people give their opinions about a subject that they are completely clueless about. It reminds me of when my teenager tries to explain how life really works.

What branch of the military are you a member of, and what's your MOS?

I have never had any problems with MP's, I know a few cuties who are MP's.

Yeah, I also just love it when people give their opinions about a subject that they are completely clueless about....

Like a naval officer, such as yourself (per your profile), giving advice about how soldiers look upon Army MP's. But hey, I'm just an old soldier, what would I know about the subject.

lol if i get the chance to be an MP i will defiantly take it. Now i have a questions some of you may know can i take the ASVAB test at the age of 16 or no?

and i dont care if people hate me its not like i wanna be friends with them anyway lol
and i will find out my handicap out next Tuesday me and a friend have a tee time at 3pm for $7 xD

I don't doubt that you're a good and intelligent person, but you're sounding mighty strange, and even this tiny bit of drama is too much for this message board. Isn't it weird how an old soldier is giving advice about how every single person on the planet looks upon any MPs to well...every single person on the planet? Your generalizations are wrong, and now you sound like a 9 year old saying "I know you are but what am I" over and over.

Okay, I'll concede that MP's are not hated by every single person on the planet.

After all, they too have mothers, fathers, wives, kids, etc... But it is a fact that most soldiers despise MP's. And since Jax is thinking of becoming an MP, I thought that it was something that he should know about and consider before signing the contract. The childish "drama" started when a Marine, and then a sailor, gave advice not founded in reality. I just don't want this young man to end up in a job that he's going to hate. And I'm not so sure that he's going like being something that his fellow soldiers dislike and don't respect. Seriously Jax, think very carefully about becoming an MP.

So, you really believe that in 24 years, I have not had any experience with the military police? Can you really be that dumb?

Just keep clinging to this dumb position.

I think that if you have never heard anything bad about the military police in your 24 years of service, as you stated in your previous post, then you are either oblivious to reality or you're a liar.

LOL! So, let me get this straight, according to you everyone hates the MPs?

Or, maybe just the people that have been in trouble complain about them? No, wait, according to you, even people that haven't been in trouble hate the MPs, right? Those damn MPs, I hate them. They keep hasseling these innocent soldiers. Even though I've never been in trouble, I hate them. LOL! You are an f'n idiot.

Let me get this straight, you have never served in the U.S. Army, right?

You have served in the Navy, right? So you're giving advice about something which you know nothing about. Jax, Norm3333 doesn't know what he's talking about, don't take his advise. His (very limited) knowledge pertains only to the Navy. I've been in the Army and I know what I'm talking about. Trust me on this, you do NOT want to be an MP. They do a thankless job that nobody respects or appreciates, and most folks just see them as the type of guys who used to get the crap beat out of them in school, and now they have a badge and a gun and think that they're "Billy Badass". Think long and hard about becoming an MP. I think that you would be much happier in the Infantry, Armor, Artillery, or Engineers. Those are the real driving force of the Army, everything else is just "support". There is also a special camaraderie and esprit de corps that the "combat arms" MOS's have that support elements simply don't have. This is my final post in this thread. Good luck to you and may God watch over you.

well i have tell august 17th to think hard about this.

Am I the only one in this forum that has been in Iraq/Afghanistan? Please if you are joining just for the school money dont enlist. Second dont become an MP. Third join the marines not army. Also you do realize you might have to go to Iraq. I just dont want you to hate the next 4 years of your life, do alot of research and talk to vets. Dont let the recruiters answers be the gospel.

Latest issue of Army Times has a list of all the hot jobs/career paths in the Army right now.

Good thing to get your hands on if you can find a copy.

Of course I can't seem to find it online, but Army Times has an informative site.

BTW Dizzle makes an important point, and it doesn't matter whether you join the Navy or Air Force, Marine Corps, Guard or reserves, combat service in Afghanistan or Iraq or somewhere else is very much within the realm possibility/probability.

I'm sure things have changed from my youth, but I knew several people that attended college on an ROTC scholarship. Earned their college degree THEN went into the military as an officer (one also completed their masters, then when they took the physical for the Air Force was found 4F due to their eyesight, why the didn't check that BEFORE the gov. paid for their college I'll never know.)

Anyway, if your grades/intelligence are good enough to go to college then they are probably good enough to be an officer. If I was in your position, I would be pushing to do the college first THEN go into the military as an officer.

Of course, like I said things might have changed from my day (30 years ago.)

best job in the military: Air Traffic Control, USAF

my reasoning:
-Mandated work hours, normal 8hrs a day (10hr Max), federal law requires 12hrs of rest in between shifts.
-Real amount of work actually done per day when your a certified 5-lvl, about 2hrs.
-you tell pilots where to go. they don't listen, they don't fly next time. only enlisted job that officers have to follow orders from. (i grounded a Wing commander for 2months for failure to adhere to FAA regulations, e-5 ruining an o-6's day, priceless)
-normally a 4 day week, some bases do 5, and deployed you'll 6

SRB should you choose to stay in for 20 is insanely high and only combat controllers and pararescuemen have a higher reenlistment bonus.

should you choose to get out, you could get a job with the faa and reach a 6 figure salary in about 6years, become a contractor overseas in OIF/OEF and make 150k/year, or chase that elusive Dubai ATC job (3years in Dubai at 5mil. home and car provided)

ATC in the USAF provides the best financial post military career.

My son is also in the military and it is quite rewarding if you go in with the right frame of mind. One word of advice though, if it's not in writing DON'T expect it.
