How do you play it?

I played a fairly hilly course today that had a number of these. I tried to treat it as I would from a flat lie only altering my shoulder plane, but didn't have a lot of success.

Any tips?

If I had some green to work with, I'd attempt to just bump it with a 9i or PW, but if I needed it to stop, I'd use a 56*, and just stay even with the slope.

If I have no option than hitting hit high I'll use my 58º wedge. Shoulders level with the ground, short swing, standing wide and balanced, hinge the wrists and release them down behind the ball, adding some loft and trying to get the ball into the air. Have played a lot of these from the rough, not too difficult with a lot of air under the ball. If it's a fairway or short cut grass, it'll be harder, but still doable.

Make sure the club follows the ground level, too. Especially after impact, keep the club low to the ground for the most consistent results. I've tinkered with that shot, and what I've come to , is, that once you get the right technique, which it seems like you have, you just have to be very confident with it.The ball just seems to go closer to the pin if you think it will.

Pray. And I mean pray a lot !!!

Then try the shot with the least lofted club possible and roll the ball on the green the longest distance possible.

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

Forgive me, but I don't understand how I could bump and run it. Are you saying run it down the hill and back up the hill? I feel like that would just run it into the hill where it would die.

There was one in particular that killed my score. I ran my tee shot through the fairway (short par 4) has a 60 yard pitch on a down hill lie to an elevated green. Between that was a large bunker. Which I ended up in, of course.

Besides the obvious solution (playing 3 wood or less off the tee) what would you do?

turn out the face of a 60* and aim left and swing for the front of the green, its the only play I see that makes sense to me.

take a wedge with the lowest bounce you have and play i short checker kinda hinge your wrist the follow though well holding you wrist off it will hit on the up slope and release a bit to the hole

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
