Hi there, I am very new to the forums.

I am looking for knowledgeable criticism of my golf swing. I took the video in my backyard, without a ball. Shown is from the rear, and then side on, with slow motion and real time versions of both swings.

Thanks for your time.

Post a video of you hitting a ball, then we'll see your real swing. But your swing there is way armsy. Start the downswing from the ground up.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

thanks for the advice. it confirms something i noticed myself about my downswing.

this video of fred couples (important part starts 30 secs in) is a wonderful example of what you are talking about.

It look like a nice swing. What does your ball do?

do you really swing that slow when hitting the ball maybe its the video but that looks like 65 % swing like you would off the first tee so we can fix your problems

i swing kind of slow with my driver yeah...

my miss tends to be low or a bad push. i dont suffer from a slice or a hook.

i hit 7 iron - SW quite straight and with a fair degree of consistency...but the longer clubs give me a lot of trouble. i rarely play anything longer than my 5 wood of the tee, and leave my 4 iron at home.

It looks to me like you stance could stand to be a little wider with your driver. You appear to be a little off balance and widening your stance should help stabilize your base. I would start there and record yourself hitting on a range. I know that my swing looks a ton better when the little white spherical nightmare is not involved.

try hitting your wedges only so that you can find your swing. Focus on your take away and make sure you do the following:

1) set up with your rear shoulder slightly lower and you do on the video.
2) comfortably extend your arms so that they are fully extended to the ground without tension
3) start your take away with the club shaft point opposite of your target but down the line with the toe pointing straight up
4) hit some shot with your wedge with this position first to see if you are making solid contact
5) Once you make solid contact bring your club up while keeping your arm straight (you do on your video)
6) make sure that this backswing motion is as natural as possible without any movement laterally during your rotation
7) make sure that the bend in the knees helps keep you stable and down on the shot to ensure a solid impact
8) you are focusing all your attention on the impact zone and once you can repeat this with the wedges you are ready to move up your clubs PW, 9 etc to finally your longer clubs, fairway woods and even driver.
