I have callaway x-20's with R graphite shafts. Recently, I have started hitting them very high, my seven iron goes the distance (170) but extremely high. it's not a weak shot, it still cuts through the air nicely, but it seems so high. I know that callaway's are very light clubs compared to others, but i tried some rac and clevland irons and the seemed very heavy and stiff. My irons now are straight, no push or hook right or left, so I'm wondering if i need new shafts. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

If you like the current ball flight, the shafts are fine for you.

While a 170-yard 7-iron is generally a sign that S, if not X, flex, probably in steel, is to be used, it doesn't require that you do so. The golf police won't be harassing you about it.

i don't particularly like the ball flight, especially because of wind and how conditions effect it more, but I do like the lightness of the clubs. Does anyone have comparison weight statistics for the steel vs. graphite x-20's?

They make stiff graphite, you know. You can also get graphite with various kick points if you want it to have the ball fly even lower.

My buddy was dealing with the same thing (straight as an arrow, but high in the sky) and he thought he'd go with a stiffer shaft as well...but after the club fitter and all the gurus looked at the swing, etc, it was determined that a different kick point was needed, not a diff stiffness. He ended up with Grafalloy (sp?) and he likes them.

Heh, I thought we were the only two guys with graphite in our irons, I guess you are the 3rd.

Let us know what you end with, I am certainly curious bout the results.
