I currently have a 46* PW and a 55* SW. I'd like to add another wedge and since I only have 13 clubs in the bag at the moment, I have the room. Would you suggest...

1. Sell the 55* and buy a 52* and a 58*.
2. Buy a 50* and be done.

I know I can't hit a 60*, but I've never tried the 58* and my thought was that it gave me something close to a lob wedge and either it or the 52* could be sand wedges depending on how far out I am from the green.

How much do you like the sand wedge at the moment?

I don't suggest selling clubs just to try out new ones, so if we're limited to the two choices, I'd say get the 50.

There is nothing wrong with it, but I'm not attached to it.

Don't get a 58* save yourself the pain & just grab a 50* which you could even get bent to 51* if you wanted it closer to your SW or a 52 bent strong to 51*

My wedges are bent strong to even though it says 56 & 52 in my signature there actually 51 & 55

Personally if it were me, given your two choices, I'd go with option 1. I always carry either a 58° or a 60°. I like to be able to hit a quick up and down flop shot where there isn't a lot of green to work with. I'd actually probably carry four wedges as a preference and go 50°, 54° (could bend your 55° here?), 58° I'd have a higher bounce on the 54° for soft sand and fluffy lies, and a low bounce on the 58° for a high grabbing shot from tight lies close to the green.....but that's me......

However, in your case, if you haven't hit a a 58° before, and don't see the need for more than your 55°, then it might be better to just fill the gap with either a 50° or 52° (you don't have to bend weak/strong straight away, see how you get on). You could always add a 60° over the top later, if you found a need for it. It sounds like you just want to fill a gap, rather than develop some different shots.......so just fill the gap.

I bought a wedge every 2° between 50° and 60° to give me a range of options. Sometimes I carry a 58° and a 60° (they have different bounce). I carry either 3 or 4 wedges (including my Ping S58 47° PW), depending on course, conditions, and my mood). 52° and 58° with or without my 60° is my default setup, but I do sometimes carry other combinations if I'm carrying four wedges......so you might not want to listen to me too much - I'm a bit wedge obsessed at the moment while I'm working on that part of my game (it seems to be helping).

    • I haven’t really filmed in a while. Starting to feel like my body is close to being at full strength again, but I am also 65! I played a few round and my distance is down as expected. Here are a 6 iron and driver swing. My grip is a bit weak in these so I’ve focused on that the last few days. I went over my Erie notes. I’m trying to swing down from the top and not out. I want my weight to start shifting forward at about P3. And I want to push my left hip back in the downswing, which I was not successful in these swings. Ball flight has been pushes or pull draws with the irons and fades with the driver. Looking at these swings I can see why. I just need to change the picture.
    • I flipped the video above but here it is again so you see the flipped version, too.
    • Things can go awry quickly on that hole.
    • I have played that course a lot. Mostly scrambles/outings. I enjoyed the read and could picture each hole and got nervous thinking about number 5. That hole is scary. 200 yard layup off the tee?
    • Even though you didn't score well, take solice in the fact you hit the longest drive of the year! 😏 I enjoy following your rounds and can imagine the scenario.   Thanks for sharing
