I am looking for some opinions on what I should do. I am considering upgrading my existing irons for a new set. I am currently playing the Ping Eye 2 BeCu. I really like the clubs and that is part of the reason why I've been playing them for the past 20 years. I've tried different clubs over the years, but haven't hit any of the newer clubs any better than my trusty Pings. I was never fitted for these irons, the guy I bought them from said the shafts were too stiff for him. I tried them and every swing and shot felt great. I bought them on the spot.

I guess the main reason for trying to move on is that I was thinking of keeping these clubs as a collectors item. While they do show signs of use, I would say they still have plenty of rounds left in them. My question is, are these clubs worth keeping as a collectors item? All the serial numbers match and the set is from 2 to L-Wedge.

Perhaps I'm putting the cart before the horse, as I actually have to find some irons and wedges that I like first.

Sorry for being a bit long winded. TIA.

Nike Victory Red Split Cavity Back's. I'm not telling you to buy them but make sure you hit them when your shopping around. They are very workable while being surprisingly forgiving at the same time. They are forged with a very thin top line and you cannot see the small cavity at address which gives you confidence when standing over the ball. These irons feel so good on a flush shot and they tell you if you made contact with the heel or toe. IU owned Mizuno's and Titleist prior to these and the Nike's are by far the best iron's I ever hit.

Collector's items: absolutely!

Ping has a new line coming out soon - the i15s. Consider going to a demo day, get fitted (might as well), and pick up whichever subset you want. There are other competing irons - MP-57s, VR SC, AP2 - but if you already know you like the Pings, go for it. Or go to a ton of demo days and give 'em all a try.

One thing to be wary of: if you don't know about modern lofts and gap wedges, make a mention - going from those clubs to today's may involve a slight change in set makeup.

Hey Happy Hacker..

I'm sure you're going to get a hundred responses from people telling you about what they love but I'll tell you what I did because I've recently went through this same situation.

Find a demo day and try em all.. I think what you will find is most clubs are extremely simliar in the way they feel.. Ok for you naysayers out there blades and GI irons will feel different but if you're swinging apples to apples and oranges to oranges I don't think you're going to find a very big difference.. Find one that suits your eye. I have decided that your body won't let you swing something your mind doesn't want it to. When I went to the demo day I really liked the Mizuno's.. When I went to buy a set I liked Ping i10's price.. and considering Ping is made in the good ole USA I went with the Pings! Couldn't be happier with the Pings although I do wonder what might have been with those MP 57's!

Hope this helps!

Where are the rest of the brands made?? I was in the belief that all major club brands are made in the USA (except Mizuno which is forged individualy in Japan, right?)

My achievements:
Eagles: 0
Birdies: 18
Best Round: 89

Most clubheads are made in China or Japan. Assembled in the U.S. I think we've had a bunch of threads about where clubs are made in the past, so let's stay on topic here...

    • Interesting discussion. Consider this; we spend 95% of our open eyed life perceiving everything in a front view. That's what we are/become good at. Our eyes/brain don't develop an accurate  sideways aiming system. Plus our perception 'bends' based on shape of the hole, slope, etc. Anyway, I pick a spot 5 feet in between the ball and target and set up my toes parallel to it. That's it. From 150 yards out Im off by 2 feet. Big whoop. You can try to compensate for it, but unless you are good at changing aim in 0.01 degree increments, chances are you will overcompensate.
