Hello everyone, this is my first thread. I've been researching balls a lot lately and I was wondering what you all might think would be a great ball for me to try. I currently play the Pro-V1 and I like everything but the price. Then again, I haven't tried some of the newer balls on the market so maybe there is something out there better for me.

I was reading about the Bridgestone B330 RX and B 330S as well as the Pro-V1X. What is important to me is distance and feel around the greens. Here are my stats:

Driver

Launch: 11 - 12*

Ball Speed: 146mph

Club Speed: 100-102

Distance: Usually, 250-280 yds

Handicap: 9

Occasional golfer - a few times a month.

Any suggestions?

If you are hitting it solid, you should be getting near 275 max. 148 mph ball speed, 14 degrees of launch with 2500 rpm will get you 275. You might tweak an extra 5 yards if you catch one with a higher swing speed. You might want to work on contact if you are getting a 30 yard variance in your distance.

As for a golf ball, for feel you want a Urethane cover. It just beats out all other cover types. So you are looking at a 30+ dollar per dozen. Once you get that high, all golf balls really flight the same. Most modern golf balls are designed to have low spin for drivers, high spin for wedges. So most golf balls are comparable off the driver

I recommend the Chrome Hex, its a very solid golf ball. The premium nike golf balls are a good one as well. If you can find them LPD Blacks by Taylormade. They should be on sale. They are like 3-4 years old, but for the price today you can't beat them. I think I saw them for like 20-25 dollars a dozen. They were originally priced at 35-40 dollars.

They were top of the line when this thread was made though. And I can attest that they are pretty decent, though not as long as current tour balls for me. Right now Nike 20XIX are about 23$/dozen so I just bought 4 dozen. But I'm over 100mph by a decent bit. Bridgestone E5s are the best I've found that aren't tour balls or surlyn.

    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
    • Day 16: 12/26/2025 A little more mirror work today. Then out to the garage net.  The first part of my PPJ swing thought is really starting to stick. The J still takes some focus. Plus, I'm still putting a priority on getting all the way to my finish.
