As much as I loved the look of the White Hot XG9 I picked up a couple of months ago, I just couldn't get along with that insert. Felt nice and soft, but I was terribly inconsistent distance-wise because of it. So, I went to a local shop on my lunch break today with it in-hand as trade bait. They had a nice selection and I hit quite a few (including my first taste of a Heavy Putter, holy *%&^ they are aptly named) and wound up walking out with a Karsten Series Anser.

I think the blade style fits my stroke better, and it's got a great feel. No insert means it's not overly soft, but the medallion on the back dampens excess vibration without killing too much feedback. I also liked the Karsten C67, but in the end the heel-shafted Anser stole the show. The magnetic headcover is pretty cool too, nice idea.

Well the proof is in the scorecard. I went out after work today and shot a 44 on 9 holes - beating my previous best on that course by 7 strokes. I hit 4 of 7 fairways and only one GIR (ouch), but also only had 14 putts instead of my usual 20+. I had much better distance and speed control with this than I did with the Odyssey. It was a cool putter for sure, just didn't fit my game very well it seems.
