I have never played irons with graphite shafts in my life. I visited a friend in Canada and played a round with a set of Cobra FP irons with graphite shafts, senior flex. They were his wife's clubs. Bottom line, they felt great and I was hitting them further and straighter than my MacGregor 1025's with regular flex steel shafts. I may explore the graphite option in my irons for further use. Maybe at 56 years old it's time to move to a different iron dynamic. I have no idea of my swing speed but I hit my 5 iron 170, 6 iron 160, 7 iron 150and so forth. Driver about 250 maybe a bit more.

Do you think I am a candidate for senior flex irons?

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

Try the clubs with a similar shaft in graphite regular flex and compare them first. A 170 yard five iron would seem to translate to driver speed of 90 or more? That would normally be regular. That particular shaft may just have the right profile for your tempo.

Solid advice thanks. The last thing I need is another set of clubs sitting in the garage. I want to explore the options and kick it around before I buy anything else.

From your stated distances, I suspect you're either R or S flex. As a reminder, most companies will fit you for free if you're going to buy their clubs - and they can tell you a lot better than I can.
