ive gone from straight 270+ yd drives to 200 yard hooks..
the only advice ive gotten from other forums and swingacademy is put the ball further forward in my stance. can you guys see anything else.. I know my takeaway needs a little work and im overswinging a tad. but i havent hit a good drive in 2 weeks and its absolutely killing me, im ready to sell my clubs .. i dont use a strong grip, so i dont think that is it, maybe im just releasing the clubhead to early, i have no idea, hopefully one of you can tell something.. thanks for your time

Set up horizontally to the ground rather than 90 degrees to the earth (j/k :)). Work more on a one-piece takeaway. Little bit of a chicken wing through impact. Keep your right foot on the ground a little bit longer on your downswing (I try to feel like my sholders and hips are turning back to the ball at the same time on the downsing. My hips will still lead because of my backswing, but it feels like I start down with both at the same time when my rhythem is perfect).

thanks, yea you have to go to tools and hit rotate and it will be normal.. do you think the chickenwing could be causeing my hooks?

Yes.

These are the feelings I get when I'm making good swings. And the ball don't lie; it goes far and straight. I've watched video and even though it feels like it's all going, in slo motion and a high frame rate you can see the different components firing in order. The "1 piece swing" is the best piece of advice. When you start getting all these different things going with some kind of timing everything gets screwed up. Yes, there is an order things go but when done right, with good rythem, it should sort of feel like like a single piece.

I think the guys here are on to something. I see you actively rotating the forearms early in the swing. Less independent manipulation of the club and more in sync with the body turn might help.

Well... sideways angle aside- you're over- rotating your shoulders on the downswing. When I stop the vid at impact, your shoulders are open and there's very little hip rotatation.

Try this drill...

Take your address position and hold a club across your shoulders. Note where the club is aimed at address. Take a mock swing and stop at impact. At impact position, your weight should be on your left side, hips should be clearing to the left and shoulders should be square. The club should be pointing at it's original starting position but slightly up from shoulder tilt. Good luck.

And the other observations are correct....your club is completely open at the top of your swing too

I'm no pro by any means, but it looks like your legs are too active to me. Looks like you kinda dip your butt down a bit when you go through the ball. The majority of your power comes from your base and any extra movement not related to hitting the ball loses energy that could be used to strike the ball. Maybe you should try being a little more simple and quiet with the legs in your swing.

Hard to see for sure, but club is open at top (toe down compared to left arm,) looks like a reverse weight shift going on, you spin out as you flip through, come over, and pull hook the ball left. Just a guess, but if you block the hook then you will hit a high weak slice.

thanks guys, if it wasnt raining i would be out practicing some of these things.. do you think it would help if i went to the local golf shop and hit some off the launch monitor.. im thinking that might show what the problem is if it is clubface angle or swingplane since you can see where the club is at just before impact and at impact

What the heck is that big dip in your downswing? Why is your right heel coming way up as soon as you start your downswing? Do you have no weight shift to your right foot in your backswing? What instruction are you trying to use, if any. What is your major swing key? Any minor swing keys?

It does not look like you are swinging very much inside-out. I cannot tell what your clubface angle is at impact, but it must be very closed to be hitting a big hook.

A face-on view might be helpful (or did I miss that). I usually recommend Hogan's "Five Lessons" and the Master Key instruction, but in your case you may also need some one-on-one lessons if you can find a good instructor.

ok update i went to the range today, stood closer to the ball, put it more forward in my stance, kept back foot on the ground longer, and didnt do the dip thing. I was also trying to not release the club to early, and it felt like i was producing a lot more lag. It felt like my swing took alot less effort and I was puring all my irons, and even my 1980s 5 wood that i never ever hit. i was hitting it farther and straighter than my driver.. I was hitting the driver way better than when i played the other day though, less hooks, but still a few, and now even some fades, not many straight ones though... The damn thing just feels so big and bulky, I guess its where I'm used to using a 380 head instead of this 460, have any of you have problems going from small head to bigger?

ps ill try to get a video of the new swing up so you guys can see if there are any more problems as soon as i can borrow my friends video camera
