July has been a strained month for my golfing. Only had the chance to play 27 holes all month.

Gonna play a lot more in August, I suspect.

I did get to use the new 64 deg LW a bit.

So far.....it's done exactly what I wanted it to do....that is short flops to tight pins. I find myself in this position 1-3 times per round. I've been using my 54....opening it up. This works okay, too. I played for months with 13 clubs and felt this one would fill up bag nicely.

I'm sure that I've used it too much during these 27 holes...mainly the temptation of having a new stick in the bag and wanting to see what my capabilities are with it. I've had zero range time this month....so it was simply a case of dropping it in the bag and playing with it.

A repeated scenerio where it has worked very well has been when my approach shots land left or right of the green with a bunker or hazard to carry to a tight pin. It's almost a no-brainer (of course some of my playing partners said buying the club was a no-brainer....they don't like 64s). I simply take a 3/4 to full swing and follow through and the ball launches high and stops stone dead (15yd-25yd distances).

I works well from firm lies...not so good when the ball is perched on thick pinestraw or grass. The wedge will scoot under it too easily.

I'm going to get some much needed range time in soon....this club will be one that I need to continue getting acclimated to. There may be rounds where it never gets pulled out....but I want to pull off the shot when needed.

It's a fun club to mess around with, but I'll never replace it with any of the clubs in my bag. With a 58/60º wedge, there is no need for it. There are no situations where I need more loft than I get form my 58º. If I do, I'll hit a flop shot.

I think....in time, I may wish I had gone for a 58 thin sole.

I could open up that beast and drop it stone dead....or square it up for the full shot range. The loft gap would have been great after my 54 degree SW.

I've only played with 2 people who have 64* wedges. One guy was horrible with it and always was trying to hit "spinners". The other guy didn't really use it much just 1 pitch but he said he doesn't usually carry it.

Played nine holes yesteday and used it once.

Longish uphill par 4. Busted a long drive that ran through the fairway into the rough.

Chopped a 3 hybrid out but it came up short of the green on the edge of a bunker.

Used the 64 LW to carry the bunker and die on the close edge of the green.

Limited use club at best....but handy as heck for the right applications.

I agree completely....my 64 is outa the bag and has been replaced by a high bounce 58 that will be much more servicable from bunkers and other areas.

This 64 may well wind up on ebay very soon.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
