The covers themselves is not the problem. Moisture is the culprit. If you clean and dry the clubs after each usage and take off the covers to dry up if they get wet, you'll be OK. In some environments however, with a lot of humidity, you might have a constant moisture inside the covers.

I think because Mizunos are like butter, you need to put them into the refrigerator for an hour before cleaning them with a brush

Seriously, anyone worried about damaging their clubs with a brush or hitting balls that have sand on them... WAAAY OCD...

I started playing mp-52's this season and at first I was diligent about keeping them as clean as possible. Now after who knows how many range sessions and rounds, guess what? They look worn and used....like they're supposed to!!!! I clean them with a wet towel after each shot and at the end of the round. They look like they've seen some action and I like them even more now than when they were new and shiny. You can't be afraid to use a tool for which it was designed. A little TLC is all they need.

I play MP-60's and when I first got them I was a stickler for keeping them super clean. But the metal is so soft that, after time, little pebbles from your divot will end up scratching your soles. Just keep the groves clean and you should be good. Mine are worn in the sweet spot quite a bit...but I think that just makes my irons look like a very accomplished player hits them!
