I hit my driver really well and am a consistant 235 to 240 yd hitter. I can't get any distance with my irons though. I hit my irons good but no distance. For instance, when I played before, my 9 iron was a solid 130. Now it seems I'm hitting my 7 iron about 135. I just can't figure it out. I hit them straight, just short.

Any tips?

I'm in the same boat. I am about 270 with the wind and 240 against the wind using the driver but my 7-iron is only 150 yards. I blame my poor iron mechanics. I think best bet for both of us is to get some lesson on hitting our irons better.

I agree on the lessons. I wanted to get some rounds under my belt with the new irons, BH-5's.

The ball flight is fairly normal. The ball is played between the feet for most shots and forward for the longer irons. I fell like I've actually slowed the swing down to keep it straight and maybe it will come with time.

For instance I hit a 5 iron 160 Saturday and I use to hit this club 175 to 180.

Maybe I'm pushing to hard to get the game back...

How's the contact on your irons? Are you making consistent solid contact?

I feel like I am because the ball is on line most of the time, just short. I'm going to record my swing this evening and see what I can find.

I bet you are scooping you're irons. It may not look as exaggerated as some of the illustrations out there but even a little bit will kill distance and make your 6 iron fly like a 9. I am working on fixing the same problem. The club should be inline or behind the line of your left arm at impact with all clubs. Do a search for lag stick. It will give you the general idea. The hands need to be ahead of the clubface at impact.

The main issue I have is I try to add power with my hands. Most instructors think it is caused by trying to lift the ball but that is not what I am trying to do. I'm trying to add power. I'm still trying to figure out how the hands should react at impact. If your club is straight up and down at impact you are scooping the ball. The back of the left wrist should be bowed and not cupped. The back of the right wrist remain cupped.

I get maybe 20-30 yards more distance when I can keep my hands ahead of the club properly.

^^^^ Agree

Sounds like you are just not making solid contact. Do you happen to know your driver swing speed? Could be off-center with the big dog too. How are your divots? Does your ball flight just look like a huge flop shot or more like a low riser with a floating descent?

I'm not sure about scooping, but I do tend to pick the ball. I would say a huge flop shot. I do set the ball down pretty soft.
