I was playing in the sunday skins group yesterday and I come to a tough par 5 that birdie is almost always a skin. The hole is 575 uphill dog leg right so I got a little over the top and hooked one into the trees. One of the guys in the goup finds it and its a clean lie with an opening. Well by hitting here I've taken 40 yeards off the hole so I hit my hybrid up to about 35 yards short. Pin is in the front its all uphill so I'm going to play a chip and run right up to it. I hit the chip it lands 2 feet short of the green and kicks directly left but I saw something else fly up when my ball landed. I walk up there and to my surprise my ball landed directly on a single soft spike. It did end up costing me a skin although only 2 got paid out. One guy eagled a par 4 and another was a birdie on a 215 yard par 3.

Hey, if something like that can happen, you might just hit a 600 drive hole in one, amirite?

Uh, what?

I walk up there and to my surprise my ball landed directly on a single soft spike.

I've never heard of that happening before. That stinks, but I'm sure the owner of the spike never even knew it came of the shoe.

Just yesterday I had a similar experience with a sprinkler head that took me out of a possible skin. I was trying to get home in two on a long uphill par 5. I hit 5 wood absolutely on the screws and it was heading dead down my line. The ball was coming down just short of the green, and was going to bounce forward and roll towards the back pin (or so I thought). Enter the sprinkler head that was angled up...the ball hits that, bounces high and starts to come back toward me, the ball bounces and rolls back another 30 yards away. After an average chip and two-putt, I make par, but a birdie would have taken the hole. ARGGG!!!

In the bag:
