downhill chip

Today I was faced with this shot several times, a short 10-20 yard chip shot from a downhill lie..(I overshot the green alot today.. i suck at picking the right club) didnt know what the best way to approach it would be.. tried a bit of an open face flop.. skulled over the green. tried just a normal chipping motion.. rolled it, didnt get out of the rough..

what is the best way to play this shot? it definitely got the best of me today

Instead of standing vertically, try taking your stance leaning with the slope of the hill. Play the ball back a bit and hit a normal chip.

Agreed.

Also don't go for a flop shot unless your positive you will hit it good. Too much of a high risk shot when you could chip or even a pitch. Lean with the slope and just chip it, accelerate through the ball.

I normally chip with a pitching wedge. But I get the downhill lie once in awhile. It sucks. What I do is actually switch to a sandwedge. This helps me get under the ball so I don't get a nasty shank.
