How did you start using left-handed clubs?
From my understanding, left handed people can easily play right handed clubs if they just start golf playing them. I have a couple of friends who are left handed but they play right hand. So what made you guys choose to play left handed even though you could just play right handed? A lot of clubs are not offered in left dexterity which would encourage more lefties to play right, so what made you go left?

My dad always tried getting me into golf but I had no interest in it until I was about 13. He had read a book that said its always good for golfers to lead with their more powerful arm. So if you're left handed golf right and right handed golf lefty. Mean while the sly old man taught me to bat lefty in little league so obviously I played golf lefty. I'm not sure theres any real advantage to this theory and I can swing righty fairly good but I'd need some work to play righty.

Wasn't an option for me. I've always swung everything left handed. I'm pretty ambidextrous as well, and I do a lot of things right handed. Golf, however, was just never something I'd try righty. I can switch hit(baseball) pretty well, but a golf swing is just far too complex a movement for me to ever try righty.

Being a lefty kinda rocks as well. Clubs seem to be a lot cheaper on places like Ebay, as I assume there's just a much smaller market for them.

I've heard there is a significantly higher percentage of lefty golfers in Canada than in the US. Guess why...

I'll answer (even though it's probably meant as rhetorical)

Hockey... Always did everything left handed - my dad had a brother that teachers essentially forced into being right handed so was very conscientious he not force me to the "correct" side. I @#%ing hate Scotty Cameron for his dexterity discrimination.

ME TOO! Wtf! Why does he hate lefties so much?

Did a lefty beat him up in middle school or something?

Pretty much the same for me. I am fairly ambidextrous, I use scissors with my right hand, use my computer right handed, but for all sports I am lefty, and especially for as something technical and complex as a golf swing, I have to go lefty.

However, I have found clubs to be more expensive on ebay, at least what i've currently been looking at.

I could never ever ever play golf right handed. I have no cordination right handed. I had no choice. I have played around with right handed clubs and my wife has a better swing than that.

I would rather play right handed because the left handed draw is no good for most courses.

The same thing that stops righties from playing left handed.

People who play cricket or baseball, tennis, snooker etc. play left or right handed, with a VERY strong preference for one side and possible zero ability to play the opposite way. Your information is way off. Unless you are ambidexterous. In the days when there were few left handed clubs available, many people had no choice.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Various reasons:

Right-eye dominant.

Random nagging injuries make a righty swing less comfortable.

I'm iconoclastic like that.

Trying to swing righty makes me feel all sorts of uncoordinated.

-------------

I'm another ambidextrous sort. Switch hit when I was playing baseball. I fought southpaw. I write with my right hand. I threw right-handed when I was playing actual league baseball, but seem to throw with my left more often these days (If I just pick something up and toss it, I use my left hand more often than my right without thinking about it). I can't put my watch on with my right hand without fumbling it. I play guitar righty.

Guess there's no solid answer other than, "I'm a bit weird."

It's all kinds of hideous to watch me try to hack with righty clubs, though.
