I am thinking about doing a regular early-bird (6am) 9 hole walk. I am a little dismayed at the price, though! What do you pay for a (usually back) 9, early morning walking rate? This should be for 9 holes of an 18 hole course, not a 9-hole exec course

Closest muni (very well kept) to me is $14 to walk 9 and $3 discount if you present a Golf Association of Michigan membership card, anytime. I usually do it Friday evening.

It really depends on the course, but there are several in my area that weekday non-twilight hours would be $13-15 for 9. Weekends are always more (~+$5) and evenings cheaper (~-$3). What was the price you were dismayed at?

If you can't lead 'em with a stick, beat 'em with a carrot!

Golf isn't cheap. The largest obstacle to improving is financing it.

You either have to join somewhere or find the free hitting areas where you can usually hit a 9 iron or PW using your own balls.

There are three courses, all about 20 minutes from me, and they are all $20 for walking the back 9 at 6am.

$20 for walking the back 9 at 6am.

That does sound steep, my league plays nine and we get a cart to go with that $20. Of course Northern California is more expensive than the the midwest. If you are planning to do it regularly maybe you could work out a non-membership deal with them...

The course I play doesn't offer different rates for different times of the day. It costs $15 to walk 9, but often times I have a coupon for $5 off of greensfees.

I haven't seen any dawn rates around here but I found something odd the other day. I took off work early and booked a tee time online with last minute golf around 12 noon for 25 bucks. That's 18 holes with a cart and about 10 cheaper than normal. I was playing single so I got paired up with another single who was just playing 9. I asked him how much was it to play 9 holes during the week and it's 5 dollars MORE than the 18 hole rate.

He ended up clipping a coupon from the golf newspaper in the clubhouse that gets you 18 holes and a sleeve of balls for a few dollars more than 9 holes. So he got that and just left after 9.

I just don't understand the mentality of charging more for less I guess.

I have always wanted to try to wake up early & play 9 before work. Most of the time I just play 9 after work during the week & 18 on the weekends.

At my regular course, it's $15 for 9 holes Mon - Thur, then $17 for 9 holes Fri - Sun.

I don't really know if they have a different rate for going first thing in the morning. I tried making a tee time to see what the earliest I could get on would be ... but their online system is pretty crappy so I didn't get an answer on that.

My normal work hours are 7:30am - 4:30pm so that I can play 9 after work.

Are you guys tired all day for having waken up so early to golf? I bet you can play pretty quickly in the morning ... or are there alot of other people that have the same idea as you? Do you also play 9 after work or is once a day good enough?

16$ or 14$ for a full 18. neither of the courses i frequent have a nine hole fee.

Just the opposite - I am energized all day from the morning golf.

I am less interested in golfing another 9 or 18 after work if I go in the morning. That's doesn't mean I won't go, though!

at two of the local courses i play, you pay one green fee for the entire day. if you want a cart, you pay for however many times you go around, but just to walk, $12 (at both courses after tax) will cover you from dawn til dusk the same as it would cover just playing the back nine once through.
