well after doing some reading on here it was like "DING"
i have been struggling to find a proper shaft to fit me and my ol trusty 975F 4 wood
it currently has the stock Titleist Regular shaft in it

i remembered my older yet Taylor Made "Railer" 4 wood
i could smash that thing and STRAIGHT!!!!
i have no idea where it is today, but that had a steel shaft in it
i need a club in between my 4i and my driver
driver is about 265 or so and 4i is about 210-215
i need to fill the gap for longer par 5's and tighter par 4's, or even a super long par 3!! haha!

i just checked the Titleist website and the 16.5* had a 42" shaft in it
the Projext X Flighted shafts come in a 42" length or 41.5 in the non-flighted
dont matter to me which one goes in, but i think i will get the 5.5
driver swing speed is about 102-106mph, so i think this will be the perfect shaft for me

anyone else do something similar or still use a steel shaft in their fairway woods?

EDIT: CRAP....not sure if the shaft tip diamater is the same....i think the steel is bigger..hmm...can i make this work somehow?
EDIT 2: the steel Proj X is .355 and my 4w is a .335...anyone know if that be made to fit???

actually, it can be done just got off the phone w Golfsmith there is a shim that you put in the bottom of the shaft, that converts it to a .335 it is hidden under the hosel and you will never see it

Yeah I tried the shim and the club head just kept coming loose. I even took it to golf galaxy and they fixed it but they guy said to look for a new shaft. 2 months later club head was loose again and I was buying a new shaft. Theres a lot of good shafts out there so just keep looking.

ok, so i can definatly do this
as mentioned above, the shim kit goes into the shaft and then the shim into the hosel
i think i may get the Project X Flighted 6.0 individual iron shaft
it may not be the exact shaft for this club, but i think it will work just fine!

the dudes at Golfsmith (at least the dude i got) is quite knowledgeable
the terds here at Golf Town....not so much
and it is over $13 cheaper to have Golfsmith send it out

actually, it can be done

Shims are used to make the shaft larger, so that a smaller shaft can fit in a larger hosel. Not the other way around. You're trying to fit something that's too large into something that's too small.

I think the Golfsmith employee was either incompetent or, more likely, didn't quite understand what you were saying.

Well I actually missed the whole larger to smaller deal because I saw the shim. I installed the shim myself (I 've built several clubs) after the first 2 times I had golf galaxy fix it. Either way its not going to work but look around I pretty sure theres a shaft that will work for you.

well thx for your help iacas and clubchamp
looks like my "DING IDEA" ....well...sucked

i did however pick up a Callaway Big Bertha ('04) 16.5 4w on ebay today for $50cdn shipped
it's in mint condition and w a steel shaft
i was really wanting a steel shaft in my fairway wood, and im not a big fan of the newer styles out there
this is a little more traditional for me, as I also had a 3w like this in high school

thx again guys, you saved me a huge hassel..u got rep

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
