I've never hit a hybrid.

I'm thinking of getting a 3 or 4 hybrid. Please help me find the best one for my game. I need something to hit an easy 200+. I fly a 5 iron 195, but my 4 iron and 3 iron are the clubs which I have the least confidence in. And I play a lot of courses with 200-235 yard par 3s.

What hybrid do use? Why do you use it?

I just bought a Nickent 4DX Ironwood 3. I love this thing. I went to the range for the first time with it today, and after a few shanks to get used to it, I got into a groove. It's almost unfair how forgiving and easy to hit it is. Nickent's are also very solid Hybrids for a pretty affordable price... mine was barely used at all for $70.

If you like your other Ping woods, check out the Ping G10 hybrids. I use the Adams Idea Pro Gold and its great as long as you can get past the boxy look. I would think either would be fine. Since you are looking to replace your 3 and 4 iron, you would be looking at like a 23º.

Exactly.

I'm thinking about the Adams Idea Pro 23º or Idea Pro Gold 23º.

I play Mizuno CLK HiFlis, mostly because I wanted to experiment with Hybrids and found a nice set of 23* and 20* for $30ea used. I've hit quite a few, including TM, Cobra Bafflers, Titleist, Nickent. To be honest, most feel very solid and it's only a matter of finding ones, for me, that don't promote a pull/hook.

I'd think you could carry a 23* around 210-215 pretty easily, and a 20* out to 225yds. I like any of the hybrids that have a flat sole that seems to help get through rough, which seems to be most of them at this point.

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I had never used hybrids before, but knew it was time to get one. I went to a demo day and hit 5-6 of the latest models and the one I thought was the best was...who am I kidding, I couldn't tell the difference in any of them. Most of the hybrids out these days are good clubs. I hit all of them the same. If you have a good swing, you won't be able to tell much difference between hybrid 'a' and hybrid 'b'. I ended up getting a great deal on a new club that was an old model and hit it just fine. Probably the most important thing would be to get the right shaft.

As for the degree, I went with the 19. For me, my 4-iron maxes out at about 200. The 19º I can hit anywhere from 185-190 up to 225-230 if I pound it. So for me it replaced a 2 and 3 iron and sometimes the 4, although if I have a shot that I would normally use the 4-iron, I will still use it. If your 5 is about 26-27º you could probably get by with a 23-24º hybrid and use it to cover a couple of different clubs.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I've got a few hybrids-Nickent, Cobra, and a Callaway Heavenwood. The Heavenwood is 20* and is an older model, but it is a great all around club. I've let it loose on a par 4 and seen it carry 245 yds, but it can also be used for a 180 yd knockdown shot. With a nice smooth swing off the fairway it goes about 210-220. It also makes a great sound on contact. I think you can still find them new, and a 23* would probably be a great choice to replace your 3 and 4 irons.

i can smash my fairway woods so i figured i would try out a hybrid to replace my 3iron. Took it out to the range and sure enough hit it more accurately over the 3 iron so now thinking about replacing my 4 iron with a hybrid. BTW the hybrid is a adams idea a2.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
