Boston Area GC's

I am helping someone move to the area around Harvard next Thursday and would like to play a round on Friday. What are some nice courses in the area. Looking to pay less than $100, if you know any good courses giving out deals on tee times please let me know!

P.S. I wouldn't mind playing a round with a fellow TST member so let me know as well.

Never been out east to play, but on your way there, or on your way home if your going through Worcester county, stop at either Highfields in Grafton (southern), or Cyprian Keyes in Boylston (northern). Also I think Granite Links GC in Quincy is the highest rated public course in MA. Although that may be a little to far south depending on where your staying.

Shaker Hills is possibly the best public course in MA, but i hink $80 per person. Try Cyprian Keyes.

the home course is High Fields in Grafton. They have done a good job of taking care of the track (peep the sig for website). A round on Friday will cost you $61 cart included. At the right time of day from Harvard you are looking at a 50 minute drive. I've also played Red Tail out in Devens which might be a trek for you though and more than you would like to spend. I have heard good things about Granite Links in Quincy but have yet to play there since moving here in '07.

If you don't mind making the drive down to RI I'd recommend Triggs or Newport National. In the Boston area I would say play an old Boston Muni such as Presidents, George Wright, or Franklin Park, or Gannon Memorial, they are goofy but fun to play and cheap and almost untouched from the turn of the century.

There isn't a ton of great public public golf right around Boston, so your best bet is to drive a little outside the city if you have the time. If you have to stay in the city, the munis the poster above mentioned are all average courses IMO (mostly due to mediocre course maintenance), so your best bet is probably Granite Links in Quincy, however I have heard from a few people it is a little overrated and overpriced.

Pinehills in Plymouth is supposed to be a great (two of the top public courses in MA), and Red Tail in Devens and The Ranch in Southwick are both fantastic courses. Another course I really like is Butter Brook in Westford, which is the most reasonably priced of any of these courses.
