1. fix the swing even a little.
2. Check shaft flex
3. check shaft length
4. avoid anything with a tour in the name (most are 1-2* open [unless you hook])
5. If you have a decent swing, with the most correct shaft, you can look for draw bias (again if you don't pull) and any of the square heads do well. have hurd that the sumo squared it incredibly straight. but a lot can't get past the sound it makes.

just my few cents

Cutting your driver down an inch can do you wonders.

Good call.

For the OP, other options include getting a driver with more loft. I'd say there's not a great deal of difference to be had between drivers - usually the problem is the indian, not the arrow.

I'm a high school golfer like you but a new club is not going to help much as you'll still struggle. It would be better for you to have a few lessons with the pro at your club and see what's wrong with your swing.
A more forgiving driver can help therefore a square head would be a good choice.

First work on your grip, alignment, and then your swing like many people have already suggested. But I would recommend the Nike 5900 cut down about a half inch to an inch. They can be bought very cheap, especially used and are verrry straight. If money isn't too much of a problem, get the Dymo2 for $199 and cut it down as well. After all The Dymo2 is the driver Tiger said was too straight...

The Nike Sumo 5900 would be a great club for you in it's stiff shafted model. I see them brand new for $140 or so. Check Dicks Sporting Goods and others.

I gamed one of these for a while....very good club....I was foolish for trading it....still puzzled as to why I did.

Yeah my current driver is a reg flex so that might be part of the problem. I hit 3 buckets of balls today and started to get it under control, im rolling my wrist over too quick.

I struggle hitting the ball in the fairway. What drivers are known for being staight?

The new Nike Str8 Fit Dymo is awesomely straight. Even when its not going perfectly you can open and close the face and change lie angle to make the flight straight. I got mine last week and it is well worth the money - BEST DRIVER OUT CURRENTLY.

Stiff flex.

Yeah but it also sounds like you need a stiff flex.

What kind of driver are you using now?

My cousin has the Callaway Hyper X, and hits it real well, but his dad gave him a Callaway FT-i, that is draw biased, stiff flex. He says he hits it straight every time, no problem. Might want to check into it. And you want stiff flex for sure.

Oh. Well, you should go get fitted for a new driver if you can afford it.

Any of the top brands make nice stuff, just make sure you get a stiff flex with how fast you swing the club.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
