I see there is already a post asking which hybrid is the best but this doesn't exactly fit into that question so I decided to start a new topic.

Hybrids in general, what do you think of them? Good, bad, ugly, indifferent? I'm starting to consider playing one, or trying one out. I don't hit my long irons bad but I think I could surely do better.

My initial thought is to just put in more long iron practice, but if a hybrid is going to offer me that much of an advantage on top of my existing 3 and 4 irons why not?

I want to hear any and all comments, thank you!!

Hybrids are one of the most significant developments in golf technology for various reasons. They have allowed golfers of every ability an alternative to hard to hit long irons. Personally they have made me a better golfer because I can trust the performance of the hybrid in my bag. Since their introduction into golf numerous professionals on all levels of play have placed these trusty tools into their bags. With their increased popularity on tour manufacturers began to develop different types of hybrids that suit different players. There are wide soled hyrbids such as the Nike CPR and hybrids with more of a traditional iron look such as the original Mizuno HiFli and the Titleist 503H...

if at address the club is distracting (as it to many, especially people who have been playing the game for a such a long time with more traditional clubs) then the hyrbid may be to much to conquer...

in general the performance of the hyrbrid is a proven success... the best thing is to go to your local store/pro shop and just begin to demo some of the many hybrids on the market today... there isn't a club that can be called the "best" hybrid or even the "best" brand... the best thing to do is set up a fitting session to look into length and shaft specs then it comes down to personal feel, hope your search goes well and let us know if you have any other concerns

just to add to DD's post, hyrbids will help you get your longer irons in the air faster, I make good contact with my long irons but my trajectory is to low to stick to greens... my hyrbid has allowed me to attack greens without worrying about hitting and rolling off

well put, my trajectory is also much higher with my hyrbid compared to my traditional 3 or 4 iron

it must be the swing then... every single hybrid I tried had much lower trajectory than the respective iron. I was able to hit it longer and straigher, but the ball comes out like a bullet - a low stinger. Not too good for green approach shot. I noticed the same with TM rescue, G5, Sonartec MD and couple others I tried.

Make sure you swing it a few times to get an idea how does it work for you...

Bah, I'm still a traditionalist, I'm staying away from hybrids for now. But I'm sure that's what the traditionalist used to say about metal woods...

I'm sure one of these days I'll have one in my bag. So long as I can stand to look at it. Which is what I'm having difficutly with the hybrids of these days, They are ugly as S!
