Did anyone else notice that Tiger 'pulled' a number of putts yesterday? All the announcers were saying that either he wasn't reading them right or they just didn't break. Tiger kept reacting like he couldn't believe it didn't break like he thought. Actually, I think he made some BAD STROKES.

I was watching it and what I saw was not a misread or a putt that didn't break. What I saw was Tiger pulling the putt. This one on YouTube (w w w.you tube.com/watch?v=qfLgeLIOlqI) is a prime example. There were better views on other holes, but I didn't find any videos of them. It looked like he was 'helping' the putt to get to the hole, which caused it to pull slightly left.

If he's aiming 'left edge' on some of those holes (where he was playing a slight L-R break), then even if it doesn't break, it should catch the edge. He was missing the entire hole on the left, which can only mean he was pulling them.

btw - why can't I link to a video on YouTube? I put in the url, but then I preview and it puts garbage into the link?

As for pulling putts, I did notice that everything was missing left of the hole. I don't know how many of those putts were on left to right breaking putts though. I think he was reading too much break.

Hell he had a bad day putting. Yang got to him. He played Yang like the last 13 people and Yang didn't blink! It shocked him (Tiger) and caused some bad putting and poor shots. Tiger won't make that mistake again.

I didn't look at any of the videos, but I noticed during the tournament yesterday that he was setting up with a much more open putting stance than I've ever seen from him before. I didn't notice that he was missing a bunch of putts left, but his stance certainly seemed to have changed.

Whatever the reason for his 'poor putting' can I ask a simple question how many instances did that happened, in other words how many strokes he incurred as a result of the ball not going in that we believed had a genuine chance of going in. Five or Six ?

Tiger missed a good 4 or 5 that he probably should have made and that may be being conservative. He just couldn't get them to drop, I don't know what was wrong or what to attribute it too but it rarely happens to Tiger and NEVER happens to Tiger when leading in a major. it was just weird.

I did take solace in my putting today though because I had a day much like Tiger where not a damn thing would drop! even the pros do it sometimes.

I agree, I think it was like 5 or 6 including a couple to save par. He probably should have got the one on the first hole to give himself the 3 shot cushion right off the bat. If he gets at least half of those its a different ball game even with Yeng's chip in on 14.

We saw him miss a 4 footer on the practice green. It just got worse from there. But for the putting woods would have won by several strokes.

I dont know if tigers nerves got to him, or he was just simply aligning himself wrong, but the final round PGA is the worst ive ever seen him putt. What did he have like 35, 36 putts? Thats unheard of, for Tiger.

33. Including another three-putt on the same green as Saturday.

cr*p...didn't see that button, I was just trying to use the normal 'link' button. THANKS!

on the putting thing... yes, I agree with several folks here, if he had made birdie on the first or second hold with those very makeable putts he had, it would have been a different story. He probably would have gained confidence and put Yang away early. Yang hung tough though and it was fun to watch. And yes, he does setup VERY OPEN sometimes, but all the announcers always talk about his putting address as being 'straight down the line'. I stand behind my observations that he was pulling a number of putts.

Although Yeng also missed some makeable putts, too.

While it may not have been quite up to his standards, I thought TW make some challenging putts late that kept him closer than it could easily have been, like his birdie on 14 to avoid going 2 down.

Although Yeng also missed some makeable putts, too.

That was the only putt he made all day by his own admission.

Tiger also cited his poor putting for not getting closer to Glover in the final round of the U.S. Open this year. A pattern may very well be developing. Keep in mind that great agressive putters like Tom Watson and Arnold Palmer did lose their touch at around the same age Tiger is now.

I'm a bit suprised that nobody has begun to use the word "choke" in the national press! By no means was Tiger's final round Vandeveldian, but it does seem to me that he was having a hard time making his putts. It may have been hard for him due to both hands being wrapped firmly around his own neck.

I dont think he choked at all. It wasnt like he was missing 2 footers and hitting the ball all over the place. He just didnt have a good day, while Yang played awesome. He tied for the lowest score of the day, if im not mistaken.

I also think it is time he retired his putter. The head is all dinged up and he has tape on the bottom.

It has served him well but he tweaks all his other clubs, why not the flatstick?

I have noticed the same thing...He always sets up with his feet slightly open to the target, However, all the announcers and even Tiger himself say that he sets up square.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
